Summary
This report describes a study among seven green care farms focusing on values and obstacles. The study shows
that green care farms have values that fit to the needs of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Important
values at green care farms concern the farmer, the safe and quiet environment, the offered structure, and the
animals. An important role is played by the farmer because he/she is always on the farm and offers personal
attention to the children. The activities on the farm give the children the structure and clearness they need. In
addition, the (farm) animals are purposely used by the farmer as resource in the social interaction with ASDchildren.
The farm itself offers a lot of space where children can spend their energy but has also many suitable
places where children can withdraw themselves. Besides values farmers expressed their concerns of which the
major one is related to the quality of care offered at green care farms. Training of care farmers to work with
children with Autism Spectrum Disorders needs attention.
