Kunstenaars
Beeldend Kunstenaar Rogier Roeters
sculpturaal. Hij maakt allerlei objecten,
zoals knuffelachtige manshoge poppen die
hij in de films laat optreden. Zijn werkwijze
is daarbij handmatig en bijna onhandig.
Het raffinement zit hem in die schijnbaar
halfslachtige, slordige werkwijze. Juist daarin
is Roeters erg precies.
Dutch artist Rogier Roeters (1980) has always
had an interest in fashion and clothing, and
uses them in the short movies he makes. He is
an artist working as a sculptor. He fabricates
all sorts of objects, like the very cuddly lifesize
dolls that appear in his movies. The way
he works is hands-on and almost clumsy. The
refinement is in that seemingly half-hearted,
careless technique. Especially in that, he is
very precise.
Wim Delvoye (1965) lives and works in Gent. His work is characterised
by his great interest in traditional production processes,
not directly related to art. Delvoye is greatly interested in the
banal, such as excrement or squeezing out spots in the film
“Sybille II” shown at Skin Deep. He confronts hollow images in
popular culture with itself and the past. Social hierarchies and
class systems are often mixed, juggling with high and low culture.
The pig which he tattooed for the Documenta in Kassel, for
example, is a shrewd animal that originally lived in the wild. In
our times, it has become an industrial product, a pale pink equal
to the white man, a figurative figurehead of stupidity.
