Glória no paraíso

Paraphrasing the famous singer Jorge Ben Jor, we can accurately

define São João Batista do Glória city as “Blessed by

God and beautiful by nature”! São João Batista do Glória is a

typical city in the interior of Minas Gerais, with about 7 thousand inhabitants,

located in a mountainous region, on the banks of the Rio Grande

and close to the Furnas Hydroelectric Power Plant. It composes the Serra

da Canastra tourist circuit and is among the municipalities that can be

included in the expansion of the Serra da Canastra National Park.

São João Batista do Glória also has valleys and mountain ranges with

an unparalleled beauty, such as Chapadão da Babilônia and Babilônia

Valley, from where you can contemplate the incredible landscape of the

entire region and also of the neighboring Serra da Canastra.

The vegetation is typical of the cerrado, with areas of Atlantic Forest,

which favors the contact with a rich variety of plants and flowers, some

of them are little-known species.

“Glória”, as it is affectionately called, is a privileged place for nature,

with trails, waterfalls, natural pools, streams and lagoons.

According to the Municipal Tourism Council (Comtur), the municipality

has at least 130 waterfalls for all tastes. Some are easily accessible, ideal

for those who are out for a walk with family and children, and others perfect

for those who like more excitement, with trails filled with obstacles,

which makes them difficult to access and suitable for lovers of the extreme

sports.

Lost Paradise is one of the main attractions of the municipality. It

is a complex of waterfalls with crystal clear waters, pools and stones

that form natural toboggan runs. The place has infrastructure with

bathrooms, camping area and a restaurant with typical food from

Minas Gerais. The place is well signposted, with guidelines for the

safety of visitors, and access is via the MG-050 highway, close to km

315 (indicative plates). Along this same path, the visitor has access to

the waterfalls of Filó and Cascata. Filó Waterfall is practically on the

side of the highway, close to km 300. On the other hand, to arrive to

Cascata and Lost Paradise waterfalls, it is necessary to travel small

stretches of dirt road.
