The Brazilian Navy on Minas' lands
A
h, Minas Gerais, a place of so many beauties and that
always surprises us ... In the state, surrounded by mountains,
right there, in its capital, comes up the Brazilian
Navy.
Since 1926, the Brazilian Navy is present in Minas Gerais, with the
activation of the then São Francisco River Captaincy, today the Pirapora
River Police Station, in the north of the state.
With the growth of nautical activity in recent years on Lake Furnas
and the significant increase in the number of vessels traveling
on the site, the Naval High Administration decided to create the Furnas
River Police Station to increase navigation security in the Southwest
region of Minas Gerais.
The Furnas River Police Department has 163 municipalities in its
area of jurisdiction, encompassing the lakes of the Furnas, Funil and
Peixoto dams, in the course of Grande River, as well as the other
rivers in the Southwest region of Minas, contributing to the safety
of more than 3 million people.
In 2018, in the city of Belo Horizonte, the headquarters of the Fluvial
Captaincy of Minas Gerais (CFMG) was activated. With more
than 100 years of services rendered to the state, the Brazilian Navy
has gained a physical space with the objective of contributing to increase
the efficiency of services already provided to society from
Minas.
Today, Minas Gerais has the main hydrographic basins in the
country, with the São Francisco, Leste and Paraná basins, which flow
into the Atlantic Ocean. With this national relevance, a headquarters
in the state to deal more closely with the nautical communities of
Belo Horizonte and other regions has become a necessity.
The great interest in the waters and in the expression of the state
in the political part, in the environment, strategic vision, sustainability
and tourism gave to Minas Gerais, considered the water tank
of the country, a First-Class Captaincy.
To understand the relevance of this achievement, a First-Class
Captaincy is headed by a Captain of sea and war - the largest operating
post in the Navy, compared to Colonel posts in the army or in
air force. Some maritime states do not have a First-Class Captaincy.
“Protecting our wealth, taking care of our people”
The Navy's main objective is to contribute to the safety of navigation,
the safeguarding of human life and the prevention of water
