ano era 1972. Na capital da Suécia, 113 países,
entre eles o Brasil, se reuniam para a primeira
Conferência de Estocolmo. Esse foi o primeiro
evento organizado pela ONU (Organização
das Nações Unidas) com foco em questões
ambientais de maneira global. Como consequência, foi publicada
a Declaração da Conferência da ONU sobre o Meio
Ambiente, nela uma frase se destaca: “Na sua essência, o
desenvolvimento sustentável é um processo de mudança
no qual a exploração dos recursos, o direcionamento dos
investimentos, a orientação do desenvolvimento tecnológico
e a mudança institucional estão em harmonia e reforçam
o atual e futuro potencial para satisfazer as aspirações e
necessidades humanas.”
O Brasil, por sua vez, vivia o “milagre econômico”, o
“Brasil Grande”, uma fase de crescimento, entre os anos de
1968 e 1973. Como consequência, grandes obras públicas
foram executadas como: a Ponte Rio-Niterói, a Hidrelétrica
de Itaipu Binacional, o Aeroporto do Galeão, o Banco
Central do Brasil e a Ponte da Amizade. A construção civil

Stockholm Conference. This was the first
event organized by the United Nations
globally focused on environmental issues.
Consequently, the Declaration of the UN Conference on
the Environment was published. In it, a phrase stands
out: “In essence, sustainable development is a process
of change in which the exploitation of resources, the direction
of investments, the orientation of technological
development, and institutional change are in harmony
and enhance the current and future potential to meet
human needs and aspirations.”
Brazil, in turn, was living the “economic miracle”,
the “Great Brazil”, a phase of growth between the years
1968 and 1973. Consequently, major public works were
being carried out, such as the Rio-Niterói Bridge, the
Itaipu Binacional Hydroelectric Power Plant, Galeão
Airport, the Central Bank of Brazil building, and the
Friendship Bridge. Building construction as a whole
also prospered. The city of São Paulo itself is still known
