O preconceito é, muitas vezes, associado à falta de
conhecimento acerca das propriedades do material e
dos processos de construção das edificações. Sabemos
que cada tecnologia construtiva possui características
próprias, que podem ser compreendidas como limitações
quando não incorporadas da maneira correta pelos
projetos arquitetônicos. Por isso, nosso objetivo com
este livro é justamente disseminar esse conhecimento,
pois entendemos que apenas assim conseguiremos
vencer esses conceitos pré-determinados e muitas vezes
infundados. A sustentabilidade é um caminho sem volta.
O uso da madeira como material de construção apresenta
uma eficiente alternativa à medida em que o processo
de crescimento das árvores captura dióxido de carbono
da atmosfera através do processo de fotossíntese, armazenando-o
em seu interior, em um processo conhecido
como: sequestro de carbono.

Reforçando a resposta anterior, acreditamos que o
conhecimento da tecnologia construtiva empregada é a

-prima apresenta maior vulnerabilidade em contato com
a água. Por esse motivo, uma das premissas em projeto
deve ser afastar os elementos construtivos de possíveis

aspects of industrialized wood structures, from the raw
material, demystifying issues related to fire and biodeterioration,
passing to the manufacturing processes
and sizing of construction technologies, and identifying
challenges and prospects for the market and academia.

A PREJUDICE AGAINST USING WOOD FOR CONS-
TRUCTION IN GENERAL, FROM HOUSES TO LAR-
GER STRUCTURES, SUCH AS BRIDGES. TO WHAT
DO YOU ATTRIBUTE THIS PREJUDICE, AND HOW
IS THIS SUBJECT ADDRESSED IN THE BOOK?
This prejudice is mainly associated with a lack of
knowledge about the properties of the material and the
construction processes of buildings. We know that each
construction technology has its own characteristics,
which can be considered limitations when not incorporated
accurately by architectural designs. Therefore, our
goal with this book is precisely about disseminating this
knowledge because we understand that only in this way
will we be able to overcome these predetermined and
often unfounded concepts. Sustainability is a path of
no return. Using wood as a building material presents
an efficient alternative as tree growth captures carbon
dioxide from the atmosphere through photosynthesis,
storing it inside in a process known as carbon sequestration.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN GUIDELINES FOR THOSE
THINKING OF CONSTRUCTING A WOODEN BUIL-
DING?
Reinforcing the previous answer, we believe that the
knowledge of the constructive technology employed is
the basis for the beginning of any design. In the specific
case of wood, it is known, for example, that this raw material
presents greater vulnerability in contact with water.
For this reason, one of the premises in design should be
to move the constructive elements away from possible
sources of moisture. But this is just one example. In
the book, we also address other issues of fundamental
importance for the proper development of the design,
such as fire resistance, as well as the characteristics
of the construction process and aspects of structural
