events in the life of a man seem natural, joined by series of
causes and effects, being dictated by an inevitable determinism.
That’s why the time and the place of his birth, the parents and the
relatives, the people, he gets to know, are very important.

Glodeni’s Butesti was at the time of the year 1952, a simple
village as many others in Basarabia from the economical and social
points of view. But here more than in the other parts of the
region, the tradition was supposed to protect some moral values
and human r elations . Be ing a village of yeomen, c aptains and
madams, which even to the w eeding went w ith a hoe „w rapped in
a newspaper”, Butesti was a pilon where big ideas were born than
small ambitions as Nicolae Iorga suggested.
Perhaps, because of this fact, here, in Butesti good knowledge
might have been available. A Good Education was a fashionable
thing: who didn’t succeed at the entrance exam, being ashamed,
avoided the main road (Iu. Popa, … for butestenians who joined
the Great Beyond // Iu. Popa, Butesti. Come and See, Chisinau,
Litera Ed ition, 2004, p.11). That’s why this young man from
Butesti while choosing the faculty had to be sure of success.
