Nouă, medicilor, ne revine o sarcină extrem de importantă, care constă în informarea corectă şi realistă atât a pacientului, a familiei sale cât şi a publicului larg asupra consecinţelor consumului abuziv de alcool, cu implicaţii majore biopsihosociale. 41. Centrul de greutate în stabilirea diagnosticului trebuie să se deplaseze către depistarea stadiilor incipiente ale bolii, cuprinzând stadii preclinice şi urmărirea factorilor de risc, ceea ce permite depistarea activă a bolnavilor şi realizarea unei profilaxii eficiente, individualizate. 42. Orientarea către profilaxie şi către un diagnostic precoce este posibilă numai printr-o schimbare în abordarea şi atitudinea medicului privind boala şi bolnavul, dar şi printr-o adresabilitate precoce către instituţiile abilitate a pacientului conştient de riscurile ulterioare.
