Oriental Rug and textile specialist<br />
The rug was a magnificent<br />
antique Hamadan village<br />
piece from western Persia,<br />
circa 1900. More than half<br />
of the top border was completely<br />
missing or damaged.<br />
The photographs show the rug<br />
pinned to a weaving frame<br />
after having more than 400<br />
new foundation threads inserted<br />
invisibly from the back.<br />
The second picture shows the<br />
completed reconstructed area<br />
from the front which needed<br />
around 800 individually tied<br />
knots with the correct wools<br />
and design.<br />
The last photograph shows the<br />
reconstructed end from the<br />
back of the rug with the new<br />
area virtually invisible. The<br />
foundation threads have been<br />
cut to form the new fringe.<br />
