Qatar Switzerland Economic<br />
These main factors set the foundations for Qatar’s<br />
progress in the recent years. They are in line with the<br />
vision of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin<br />
Hamad Al Thani and the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad<br />
Bin Khalifa Al Thani: Qatar’s economy is gradually to<br />
move to a knowledge-based and diversified economy<br />
with emphasis on the private sector. The latter is seen<br />
as the catalyst of economic growth, valuable and<br />
sustainable job opportunities, technological innovation<br />
and regional economic integration in the years to come.<br />
The 2008 world financial crisis did not prevent Qatar<br />
from attracting foreign capitals looking for significant<br />
investment opportunities. The circumstances favored<br />
the Gulf State that will host the 24 th Men’s Handball<br />
World Championship in <strong>2015</strong> and the 2022 FIFA<br />
World Cup. Consequently, investors have become<br />
increasingly interested in the local market to take part<br />
in this economic boom.<br />
Following the success of Qatar bid to host the World Cup<br />
in 2022, the infrastructure, building and construction<br />
sector boomed: Qatari authorities sanctioned projects<br />
worth more than 150 billion USD of spending on<br />
infrastructure, be it roads, stadiums, railways or new<br />
airport and seaport.<br />
According to the latest UN Human Development Index<br />
(HDI), economic policies have put Qatar in a leading<br />
position among Arab countries over the recent years<br />
