The IMF expects Qatar to finance its entire budget from<br />
Qatar Investment Authority’s revenues by 2020. These<br />
estimates are in line with the vision of His Highness<br />
the Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, head of<br />
Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) since its foundation<br />
in 2005. Surpluses of oil and gas revenues are directed to<br />
QIA’s fund to be invested and developed in investment<br />
opportunities throughout the world to guarantee the<br />
future of generations to come.<br />
Qatar’s future planning is a sign of great wisdom,<br />
notably through using big investments’ revenues in<br />
the oil and gas sector. Thus, coming generations will<br />
not rely solely on the depleting oil and gas resources<br />
and current revenues will not be entirely used in a way<br />
that jeopardizes future generations’ welfare, should the<br />
resources become fully depleted. Instead, the State of<br />
Qatar uses these resources to steadily finance budgetary<br />
revenue and maintain strong economic growth. In this<br />
regard, the latest figures reveal that Qatar’s sovereign<br />
fund assets across the world are worth more than 150<br />
billion USD.<br />
QIA seeks to strengthen the country’s economy by<br />
diversifying into new asset classes. Building on<br />
the heritage of Qatar investments in the last decade<br />
specifically, its growing portfolio of long-term strategic<br />
investments helps complement the state’s huge wealth<br />
in natural resources.<br />
