QE2 website launch suggests
famous ocean liner will soon
reopen as a Dubai hotel
The opening of the Queen Elizabeth
2 as a luxury floating hotel and museum
has apparently moved a step closer.
“Coming soon,” runs the tagline on a
new website – qe2.com – that went live
earlier this month. It ambitiously promises
a “new take” on hospitality and a
"royal experience" for Dubai.
There’s no official launch date yet or
definite mention of a hotel on the website,
but work on the famous ocean liner
is at an advanced stage at Port Rashid
where it has been docked since 2008.
The QE2 celebrated the 50th anniversary
of its launch last September
and a story by The National then
revealed the former Cunard Line flagship
had undergone a major facelift.
Signs stating “Queen Elizabeth 2,
hotel main entrance” had been erected.
An army of workers had cleaned the
vessel, while the outdoor swimming pool
was decked over so it could be potentially
used to host events. The lifeboats
were removed and placed around the
complex as a type of advertising.
Red Sea Ports: 41% increase in
yachts traffic during 2017
Malak Youssef, the spokesman of the Red Sea Ports Authority,
said that the ports of the Authority witnessed the arrival and travel
of 94,000 tourists in its ports during the year 2017, in the ports of
Safaga, Nuweiba, Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh.
On the other hand, the port of Hurghada witnessed the arrival and
travel of 11 thousand tourists. The port of Nuweiba witnessed the
arrival and travel of 27 thousand tourists. Youssef added that the
ports witnessed the arrival and travel of 260 yachts with an increase
of 41% over the year 2016 in Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada.
UAE’s Al Zorah completes
marina project in Ajman
Al Zorah Development Company has opened Marina 1,
a creek side project located in its eponymous mixed-use
development in Ajman. Al Zorah Marina 1, which is being
operated by ART Marine, also offers berthing and rescue
services for boats and yachts that are between eight and
40 metres. Imad Dana, chief executive officer of Al Zorah
Development Company, commented: “With the launch of
Marina 1, Al Zorah will further transform into a thriving
community, where our Golf Villas residents and guests can
spend a relaxing getaway at the 5-star The Oberoi Beach
Resort, enjoy golfing at the 18-hole Nicklaus Design championship
golf course managed by Troon Golf, kayak through
serene natural mangroves, or moor at the marina’s berthing
facilities and experience diverse recreational offerings.
