There appears to be no party or any significant group in India that is remotely backing this Referendum. No major party is behind it. It is a ridiculous call by Khalistanis from outside India. There is no legal mechanism for any such Referendum to be held across Sikhs spread out all over the globe, though they may have the ear of a few British Politicians and UN functionaries. Even if the Referendum 2020 results in their desired result, i.e. pro independent Punjab (read Khalistan) and manage to get a favourable resolution through UN, then what? UN has no power to force India to grant independent Punjab. Just look at how many UN resolutions that have been going around in world history that have not been actioned, e.g. Kashmir and Palestine. How on earth can a referendum be implemented from outside the territory it is likely affect directly? What legitimate commission will be policing it? Punjab Independence – Referendum 2020 Will Sikhs and non Sikhs, in Punjab and outside Punjab, be allowed to vote? Who will put together the list of voters? This whole drama appears to be just that – DRAMA. Judging by the number of ‘Sikh’ organisations that are springing up here there and everywhere, it appears there is money to be made from the continued pursuit of Khalistan, without a People agenda. If the call was from People living in Punjab, then one could view the matter differently. But that is simply not the case. The call is purely from Khalistanis living abroad. These Khalistanis never speak about the concerns of non Sikhs in Punjab. They never speak about the 35% Dalits that live in Punjab, many of them who follow their own version of Sikhism but refuse the concept Jai Kaur Bhamra at London Art Exhibition During her visit from Germany, on a sunny afternoon of Wednesday, 8th August 2018 Jai Kaur Bhamra held her first exhibition of abstract colour paintings at the prestigious Arts and Business College of London. Sharma Oli said on Tuesday that his government is weighing setting up new industries to alleviate poverty, end underdevelopment and generate employment. Oli made the remarks at a meeting with the business persons representing the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He said South Asia should become prosperous by eliminating Federation (UK) in particular, whose religion was founded on rebelling against Castes, is hard to understand. These Khalistanis, on the issue of Caste in UK, have shamelessly fallen in line with the Hindutva brigade which wants to replace the Indian Constitution with the scripts from Manuwad. It is pointless asking but one must do it anyway; why don’t they (Khalistanis) see the issues of Nepal looking to new industries to alleviate poverty: Oli poverty, backwardness and under-development, Xinhua news agency reported. India reiterates call for UN reforms New Delhi : External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj reiterated India’s call for reforms in the UN Security Council (UNSC) during a meeting with President-elect of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces here on Monday. Congratulating Garces for becoming only the fourth woman President of the UNGA, Sushma Swaraj assured her of India’s support in carrying out her duties, according to a statement issued by the External Affairs Ministry. It stated that Sushma Swaraj “emphasised the need for UNSC reforms, especially continuation of the inter-governmental negotiations, as well as early finalisation of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT)”. India is part of the Group of Four that also includes Japan, Germany and Brazil seeking permanent membership in a reformed UNSC. The CCIT is a treaty proposed by India which intends to criminalize all forms of international terrorism and deny terrorists, their financiers and supporters access to funds, arms and safe havens. According to the Ministry statement, Garces outlined her priorities in the next one year as President of UNGA, especially revitalization of the UN, including the General Assembly as well as Security Council reforms. Garces, an Ecuadorian politician and diplomat, had called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10 soon after her arrival here. These Khalistanis from outside Punjab are exploiting the concerns of ALL Punjabis and have hijacked the issues to the extent that anyone/body that speaks on the question of language, water, autonomy, etc. is likely to be branded a Khalistani, desh dheroi, terrorist, and from that fear they remain mum. These so called ‘self determination’ Khalistani have no backbone to actually go to Punjab and fight for the rights of Punjabi People. Rather they generate noise outside, pretending to be liberators without any risk to themselves. They present a distorted history, hiding the real role of Bhindranwale. They hide his role of collaboration with the Congress. They hide his role of spreading terror through mindless killing. They exaggerate the number of Sikhs killed during the awful dark days of massacre. They fail to mention the killings of countless non Sikhs and progressive people. This Referendum 2020 is yet another marketing exercise to keep their revenues coming in. People of Punjab need justice, on that there is no doubt. The businessman leading the Referendum 2020 cannot be trusted to deliver that justice. Only the collective power of the People of Punjab can deliver that justice. -LEKH PALL Trump urges toughness against terrorist guilty of London attack Washington : US President Donald Trump urged that tough action be taken against the person responsible for the alleged terrorist attack on Tuesday morning in front of the UK Parliament in London. "Another terrorist attack in London...These animals are crazy and must be dealt with through toughness and strength!" Trump tweeted. The US President has on several occasions criticized the UK authorities, particularly London Mayor Sadiq Khan, whom he has accused of weakness in dealing with the terrorist threat. At least three people were injured when intentionally hit by a car Tuesday morning. One of them is in serious condition, though her life is not in danger, according to the Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and head of its Counter-Terror Command, Neil Basu. The counter-terror unit has taken charge of the investigation. The driver of the car was arrested after speeding through a crowd of pedestrians and cyclists waiting for the traffic light to change, then crashing the vehicle against a steel and reinforced concrete security barrier outside the Palace of Westminster, seat of the Houses of Parliament, Efe reported. London's Westminster underground station next to the Parliament was closed when the security alert was issued and police blocked traffic from entering the governmental area. Parliament, closed for its summer recess, has been surrounded by steel and reinforced concrete barriers since the attack in March of last year by another man driving a vehicle. In that attack, Khalid Masood ran over several people on Westminster Bridge next to Parliament, killing four people.

The Australian on Monday reported that in a meeting with Australian media executives, Facebook's Head of News Partnerships Campbell Brown said: "Mark Zuckerberg doesn't care about publishers but is giving me a lot of leeway and concessions to make these changes". Brown reportedly said that publishers who choose not to work with Facebook will wind up in a dying business. "Facebook said the remarks were inaccurate and taken out of context," Fortune reported. The Australian claimed the story was based on information from five people present at the meeting with Brown who requested anonymity. Earlier in August, Facebook announced to invest an additional $4.5 million towards helping the publishing industry globally. China protests against signing of US defence act Beijing : China on Tuesday expressed strong dissatisfaction with the US government as it passed and signed a new defence legislation that was seen as targeted at Beijing. US President Donald Trump on Monday signed the National Defence Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2019 into law. The bill included clauses such as directing a whole-of-government strategy Sri Lanka to ink agreement with China's Alibaba Colombo : The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) will ink an agreement with Alibaba's travel arm Fliggy to bring 1,000 travellers weekly to the country in order to expand its growing tourism sector, Tourism Minister John Amaratunga said on Tuesday. Amaratunga said after obtaining the necessary approval, his ministry will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Alibaba next week, Xinhua news agency reported. Supreme Global Holdings Limited, the local company that has tied up with Alibaba, will work closely with SLTPB on the project implementation, which is expected to result in a positive large-scale impact on Sri Lanka's tourism. Further, Supreme Global also intends to promote Alipay actively in Sri Lanka upon receiving the necessary clearances thus taking Sri Lanka Tourism to new heights, especially among Chinese tourists, Amaratunga said. The minister expressed confidence that Sri Lanka would comfortably achieve the 2.5 million target set for this year, while noting that the country could achieve 3.5 million arrivals in 2019 provided the global tourism outlook remains favourable. Over 1.3 million tourists arrived in Sri Lanka in the first seven months of 2018, recording a 13.7 per cent growth compared with the same period of last year. The 100-metre (328-feet), two-lane section of the Morandi bridge collapsed in the afternoon. Firefighting crews were searching alongside urban search and rescue teams for people trapped in their vehicles under the rubble. The police linked the disaster to what they called "a violent cloudburst". According to reports, the collapsed section had mostly fallen on to rail tracks below.
