Sikh memorial among projects
to come up in PUNJAB
Vijayawada : Y.S. Jagan
Mohan Reddy on Thursday took
oath as the Chief Minister of
Andhra Pradesh as thousands of
his supporters lustily cheered
him. Governor E.S.L.
Narasimhan administered him
the oath of office and secrecy at
a public ceremony held at Indira
Gandhi Municipal Stadium here
and attended by Telangana Chief
Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao
and DMK leader M.K. Stalin.
Jagan Reddy, who led the
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP)
to a landslide victory in
Assembly elections, took oath in
Telugu at 12.23 p.m., the auspicious
time chose by his advisors.
The 46-year-old is the second
Chief Minister of new Andhra
Pradesh and succeeds N.
Chandrababu Naidu, whose
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) suffered
the worst-ever defeat in the
elections held last month. Jagan,
as the young leader is popularly
known, arrived at the venue,
standing in an open top vehicle,
greeting the crowd with folded
Samrala (Punjab) : Punjab

on Thursday announced development
projects of Rs 11.10
crore for Bet area of
Machhiwara, besides a memorial
of Guru Gobind Singh's disciplines
-- Nabi Khan and Ghani
Khan. He recalled that Nabi
Khan and Ghani Khan had
risked their lives to host the
Dasmesh Pit during the latter's
visit to Machhiwara and a befitting
memorial would be built in
their remembrance.
The Chief Minister
announced the projects after laying
the foundation stone of a
vegetable processing plant to be
developed jointly by IFFCO and
Spanish company, CN Corp.
Expressing concern over the
loss of crops on account of
inclement weather during the
current rabi season, Amarinder
Singh also assured of due compensation
to the affected farmers
soon, as per the state policy. The
development projects announced
by the Chief Minister included
an ITI and a new rural dispensary.
He said a suitable chunk of
land had already been identified
and acquired by the NHAI for
the sewerage treatment plant to
be built at Samrala, which would
ease the sewerage problem of the
residents. The project, which had
been struck due to the administrative
apathy of previous SAD-
BJP regime since 2007, has been
taken up on priority by his government,
with the compensation
hands and a big smile.
As he began taking the oath,
there were loud cheers from
thousands of YSRCP leaders and
workers who had gathered from
across the state. He paused
briefly after uttering his initials
Y.S., apparently getting emotional
on remembering his late
father, who was popular as YSR.
After the Governor left the
venue, Jagan addressed the gathering.

Stalin and Jagan's mother Y.S.
Vijayalakshmi shared the dais.
Christian, Muslim and Hindu
priests blessed Jagan on the
occasion and prayed for his success
and the well-being and
prosperity of the state.
Vijayalakshmi turned emotional
and broke down as Jagan
took oath and delivered his
maiden speech as the Chief
Minister. Jagan hugged her and
wiped her tears.

former Chief Minister Y.S.
Rajasekhara Reddy and hailing
from Kadapa district of
amount already given to the
Sewerage Board, said the Chief
Minister, adding the government
had also approved a two-acre
alternate plot for the plant. Other
projects announced by
Amarinder Singh include repair
of Rahon-Machhiwara-Ropar
via Bela Road, involving a cost
of Rs 7.9 crore, besides construction
of new Community
Hall at a cost of Rs 20 lakh.
Jagan Mohan Reddy takes

Rayalaseema region, Jagan
was re-elected to Assembly
from Pulivendula. He was
twice elected to Lok Sabha
from Kadapa. Jagan had quit
the Congress and floated
YSRCP in 2011, one-and-ahalf
year after his father died
in a helicopter crash. Like
YSR who became the Chief
Minister of undivided Andhra
Pradesh for the first term in
2004, Jagan took the oath at a
public ceremony and also
signed the first file. While
YSR had signed the first
orders to waive farmers'
loans and supply free electricity
to them, Jagan signed the
orders to enhance social security
pension. Addressing the gathering
briefly, Stalin expressed his
best wishes and hoped that Jagan
will carry forward the political
legacy of YSR. Chandrashekhar
Rao, in his speech, congratulated
Jagan and the people of Andhra
Pradesh for the landslide victory
of YSRCP. He said the two
Telugu states would work
together for their mutual wellbeing.
He called for cordial relations
between the two states to
address all issues and ensure utilization
of Godavari and Krishna
river waters. Jagan's wife Y.S.

Reddy, sister Y.S. Sharmila,
brother-in-law Anil Kumar and
other family members attended
the ceremony. Telangana

A GREAT SUCCESS
Annual SANGHA DAANA at West London Buddha
Vihara in Southall, West London UB2 5AA, on Sunday
26th May 2019, was a great success. It was a multi national
Buddhist event with Buddhist Monks and one Buddhist
Nun from several Buddhist communities in the UK including
English, Japanese, Burmese, Nepalese and Sri Lankan.
There were nearly one hundred devotees from over ten
different nationalities, attending the event.
Due to all the Buddhist Monks, the Buddhist Nun and
all the devotees who attended this annual Buddhist event
and contributed in several ways to make this event a great
success. May the Noble Triple Gem BUDDHA DHAM-
MA AND SANGA BLESS YOU All.
