Sikh memorial among projects<br />
to come up in PUNJAB<br />

Mohan Reddy on Thursday took<br />
oath as the Chief Minister of<br />
Andhra Pradesh as thousands of<br />
his supporters lustily cheered<br />

the oath of office and secrecy at<br />
a public ceremony held at Indira<br />
Gandhi Municipal Stadium here<br />
and attended by Telangana Chief<br />
Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao<br />
and DMK leader M.K. Stalin.<br />
Jagan Reddy, who led the<br />
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP)<br />
to a landslide victory in<br />
Assembly elections, took oath in<br />
Telugu at 12.23 p.m., the auspicious<br />
time chose by his advisors.<br />
The 46-year-old is the second<br />
Chief Minister of new Andhra<br />
Pradesh and succeeds N.<br />
Chandrababu Naidu, whose<br />
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) suffered<br />
the worst-ever defeat in the<br />
elections held last month. Jagan,<br />
as the young leader is popularly<br />
known, arrived at the venue,<br />
standing in an open top vehicle,<br />
greeting the crowd with folded<br />

on Thursday announced development<br />
projects of Rs 11.10<br />
crore for Bet area of<br />
Machhiwara, besides a memorial<br />
of Guru Gobind Singh's disciplines<br />
-- Nabi Khan and Ghani<br />
Khan. He recalled that Nabi<br />
Khan and Ghani Khan had<br />
risked their lives to host the<br />
Dasmesh Pit during the latter's<br />
visit to Machhiwara and a befitting<br />
memorial would be built in<br />
their remembrance.<br />
The Chief Minister<br />
announced the projects after laying<br />
the foundation stone of a<br />
vegetable processing plant to be<br />
developed jointly by IFFCO and<br />
Spanish company, CN Corp.<br />
Expressing concern over the<br />
loss of crops on account of<br />
inclement weather during the<br />
current rabi season, Amarinder<br />
Singh also assured of due compensation<br />
to the affected farmers<br />
soon, as per the state policy. The<br />
development projects announced<br />
by the Chief Minister included<br />
an ITI and a new rural dispensary.<br />
He said a suitable chunk of<br />
land had already been identified<br />
and acquired by the NHAI for<br />
the sewerage treatment plant to<br />
be built at Samrala, which would<br />
ease the sewerage problem of the<br />
residents. The project, which had<br />
been struck due to the administrative<br />
apathy of previous SAD-<br />
BJP regime since 2007, has been<br />
taken up on priority by his government,<br />
with the compensation<br />
hands and a big smile.<br />
As he began taking the oath,<br />
there were loud cheers from<br />
thousands of YSRCP leaders and<br />
workers who had gathered from<br />
across the state. He paused<br />
briefly after uttering his initials<br />
Y.S., apparently getting emotional<br />
on remembering his late<br />
father, who was popular as YSR.<br />
After the Governor left the<br />
venue, Jagan addressed the gathering.<br />

Christian, Muslim and Hindu<br />
priests blessed Jagan on the<br />
occasion and prayed for his success<br />
and the well-being and<br />

and broke down as Jagan<br />
took oath and delivered his<br />
maiden speech as the Chief<br />
Minister. Jagan hugged her and<br />
wiped her tears.<br />

of Rahon-Machhiwara-Ropar<br />
via Bela Road, involving a cost<br />
of Rs 7.9 crore, besides construction<br />
of new Community<br />
Hall at a cost of Rs 20 lakh.<br />

twice elected to Lok Sabha<br />
from Kadapa. Jagan had quit<br />
the Congress and floated<br />
YSRCP in 2011, one-and-ahalf<br />
year after his father died<br />
in a helicopter crash. Like<br />
YSR who became the Chief<br />
Minister of undivided Andhra<br />
Pradesh for the first term in<br />
2004, Jagan took the oath at a<br />
public ceremony and also<br />
signed the first file. While<br />
YSR had signed the first<br />
orders to waive farmers'<br />
loans and supply free electricity<br />
to them, Jagan signed the<br />
orders to enhance social security<br />
pension. Addressing the gathering<br />
briefly, Stalin expressed his<br />
best wishes and hoped that Jagan<br />
will carry forward the political<br />
legacy of YSR. Chandrashekhar<br />
Rao, in his speech, congratulated<br />
Jagan and the people of Andhra<br />
Pradesh for the landslide victory<br />
of YSRCP. He said the two<br />
Telugu states would work<br />
together for their mutual wellbeing.<br />
He called for cordial relations<br />
between the two states to<br />
address all <strong>issue</strong>s and ensure utilization<br />
of Godavari and Krishna<br />

Buddhist event with Buddhist Monks and one Buddhist<br />
Nun from several Buddhist communities in the UK including<br />
English, Japanese, Burmese, Nepalese and Sri Lankan.<br />
There were nearly one hundred devotees from over ten<br />
different nationalities, attending the event.<br />
Due to all the Buddhist Monks, the Buddhist Nun and<br />
all the devotees who attended this annual Buddhist event<br />
and contributed in several ways to make this event a great<br />
