Are there any surviving Brahmins with the surname Ambedkar ? If
no, doesn’t this indicate that Ambedkar is not a Brahmin surname?
*I have been asking this question for several years now and to date have not
come across anyone who knows of any Brahmin with the surname Ambedkar.
*I have come across many instances on the Internet where attempts to
Brahminise the Ambedkar surname have been made.
* Questions such as the following are now being asked on Quora.
“WAS DR. BHIMRAO AMBEDKAR A BRAHMIN BY BIRTH?”
SHEKHAR BODHAKAR’S ANSWER TO WAS DR. BHIMRAO
AMBEDKAR A BRAHMIN BY BIRTH?.
AND
SHEKHAR BODHAKAR’S ANSWER TO : WHAT IS THE REAL
NAME AND FULL FORM OF B. R. AMBEDKAR?
This produced doubts in my
mind as to the origin of the surname
Ambedkar, leading me to
conclude that the story about
the ‘good’ Brahmin who loved
Babasaheb Dr B.R. Ambedkar
so much as to name him
‘Ambedkar’ after his own surname,
could be a fake story.
Could it be that the teacher
made an error and misspelled
‘Ambevadekar’, which means a
person from Ambevad, Dr
Ambedkar’s home village ? I
mean it’s very common to pronounce
and spell names differently
in languages other than
the native tongue (Sorry if I’ve
misspelled it too).
OR
Could it be that the teacher
did not want others to know that
there was an untouchable
Ambevadekar in his school, so
as not to encourage other
untouchables into education?
OR
Could it be none of the above
and the young Bhimrao’s father,
Ramji had DELIBERATELY
decided to give his children a
surname that is not related to his
ancestry
I have also asked similar
questions on other social media
platforms too. All answers
received were in the negative.
Questions asked: Are there
any surviving Brahmins you
know of whose surname is
Ambedkar? How many are
there? Are there any? Were
there ever any?
If your responses are also
“NO”
we must expose it as a fake
story
I am willing to change my
mind if someone can provide
concrete proofs.
NOTE : There is also a theory
that a school teacher of
Bhimrao was so impressed by
this talented boy that he asked
him to adopt his surname
“Amravadkar” (as if the genius
Bhimrao would
fall for it). If
this is true then
why isn’t he
known as
Amravadkar?
Where did “Ambedkar” come
from?
At times, even on important
documents, Dr Ambedkar’s
name was spelt differently. In
the following application form,
for admission into London
School of Economics, his first
name is spelt as BHIM RAV not
Bhimrao. The point I’m making
is that there isn’t a right or
wrong way to spell foreign
names and words. So
‘Ambedkar’ on school documents
instead of
‘Ambevadekar’ is no big deal
and there is
Shekhar
Bodhakar
no need to
unnecessarily
attribute this
incident to
any one person
(unless of course, someone
or some group, has vested interests.)
No one seems to be making
an issue of how Bhimrav
became Bhimrao, then WHY
DID THE NEED ARISE TO
EXPLAIN how Ambevadekar
became Ambedkar ?
THIS CAN ONLY BE AN
ATTEMPT TO FOOL THE
MASSES INTO BELIEVING
THAT BRAHMINS ARE NOT
CASTEISTS
There is further convincing
evidence available from
Bhimrao’s school records that
AMBEDKAR IS NOT A
BRAHMIN SURNAME (NOR
WAS IT GIVEN TO BHIM-
RAO AMBEDKAR BY A
BRAHMIN TEACHER WITH
THE SAME SURNAME)
IF, The surname ‘Ambedkar’
can be found in the attendance
register of ‘Pratap Singh High
School’ (the school that
Bhimrao attended)
Musharraf's plea to adjourn
high treason case rejected
Islamabad : A special court in
Islamabad on Wednesday rejected former
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's
plea for adjournment of a hearing of a
high treason case against him on medical
grounds.
A three-judge bench headed by Justice
Tahira Safdar also cancelled the former
military dictator's right of defence due to
his repeated non-appearance before the
court, Dawn newspaper reported.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz
(PML-N) government had filed the treason
case against Musharraf in 2013 over
the former President's imposition of
extra-constitutional emergency in
November 2007, which led to the confinement
of several superior court judges
in their houses and sacking of over 100
judges. During the proceedings,
Musharraf's lawyer Salman Safdar said
that the former Army chief was "fighting for
his life", adding that he was not physically or
mentally capable of returning to the country.
Musharraf's counsel said that he was
"embarrassed" by repeatedly submitting
requests to adjourn the case's hearing, the
report said.
Safdar said that Musharraf was having
"heart chemotherapy" because of which his
health had deteriorated.
Musharraf left for Dubai in 2016 to "seek
medical treatment" and has not returned
since. Earlier in March, he was admitted to a
hospital in Dubai after suffering a reaction
from a rare disease for which he is already
under treatment.
He is said to be suffering from cardiac
amyloidosis (congestive heart failure),
chronic kidney disease (high creatinine in
renal system), excessive somnolence (hypersomnia),
spinal injury and fracture.
On April 1, the Supreme Court had directed
the special court to proceed with the trial
on the next date of hearing (May 2) and in
case the former President surrendered and
appeared before it, he would be entitled to
record his statement.
But he failed to turn up and his lawyer
requested the tribunal to delay the proceedings
until an improvement in the health of
Musharraf so that he could come back.
Women live longer
than men in
Bangladesh: Study
Dhaka : People in Bangladesh now live
longer now compared to decades back and
the increase in life expectancy is more in
the case of women than men, according to
a government study.
The average life expectancy of
Bangladeshis rose to 72.3 years in 2018, as
compared to 72 years in 2017, said the
report on "Bangladesh Sample Vital
Statistics 2018", reports Xinhua news
agency.
According to the report, the country's
total population in January this year
reached 165.57 million, including 82.87
million males and 82.70 million females.
The average life expectancy of
Bangladesh people increased by around 25
years since the country's independence in
1971.
UP Bar Council chief
cremated, family
seeks CBI probe
Etah (Uttar Pradesh) : The
mortal remains of Uttar Pradesh
Bar Council President Darwesh
Yadav, who was shot dead on
Wednesday, were consigned to
flames in her native Chandpur
village in Etah district.
Uttar Pradesh
Minister Brijesh
Pathak was
among the thousands
who turned
up to pay tribute
to the deceased.
A large number
of lawyers were
also present on
the occasion.
Family members
of Darwesh
Yadav, meanwhile, demanded a
CBI inquiry into the murder and
alleged that Manish Sharma
(who shot Darwesh Yadav) had
embezzled funds which apparently
led to her murder.
Manish Sharma had shot
himself after killing Darwesh
Yadav and is admitted to
Medanta hospital in Gurugram
in a critical condition.
Lawyers have also demanded
security for the family of the
slain Bar Council chief while
the Bar Council of India has
sought a compensation of Rs 50
lakhs for the family.
Darwesh Yadav had been
elected as
Uttar Pradesh
Bar Council
president on
Sunday and
had attended
her felicitation
ceremony in
the court on
Wednesday.
Shortly
after the felicitation
ceremony,
Yadav was sitting in a
lawyer's chamber when Manish
Sharma came in and shot her
dead. He pumped three bullets
into Darwesh Yadav's head and
chest and then shot himself in
the head, too.
Following the incident, the
state government has upgraded
security arrangements in all
courts.
