Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Available for Coachella Valley Residents and
Surrounding Areas Healing with horses program offers a well-respected
healing method with proven therapeutic benefits
MOUNTAIN CENTER, Calif. (May 25, 2016) – One of the most powerful therapeutic experiences
another human being can achieve is through the power of animals. It is well known that in the animal
kingdom, horses are one of the most intelligent and intuitive species on the planet. At Miracle Ranch,
a five-acre compound outside of Palm Springs, amazing discoveries and healing occur without a word
being spoken. Dozens of kids, couples, singles, veterans, parents, families, cancer patients and businesses
have achieved remarkable breakthroughs through licensed therapists and interactions with the
horses during retreats and therapy sessions.
Miracle Ranch is the brainchild of licensed therapist Dr. Heather Gaedt, The Millionaire Psychologist,
and her Sober Coach husband, Aaron Smith. Miracle Ranch is about a thirty minute drive from Palm
Desert in the wooded hills. Dr. Gaedt and Coach Aaron have successfully operated the ranch with
incredible results. According to Dr. Gaedt, the real therapists are the Arabian stallion, American pony,
Quarter Horse and Alpacas for those who have fear of horses. Dr. Gaedt has extensive experience
working as a Psychologist, with a variety of clinical and managerial experience at centers such as Betty
Ford Center, UCLA Staff and Faculty Counseling Center, Michael’s House Treatment Center in Palm
Springs and her own practice, The Millionaire Psychologist. Dr. Gaedt employs her academia training
with her certified EAGALA equine training to help clients gain self-understanding and emotional
growth.
“Have you ever watched a movie where a horse drags its owner to safety or the countless times John
Wayne and the Lone Ranger relied on their horse for support? Or cried by watching a trainer ‘whisper’
to its horse?” states Dr. Gaedt. “There is something magical and powerful about horses that
humans cannot explain, and we have seen time and again the miracle of horses helping human beings
recover from life’s traumas.
Dr. Gaedt often incorporates Equine Assisted Psychotherapy into her successful private practice. She
finds it to be a good fit with her clientele who prefer non-traditional therapy sessions. The Millionaire
Psychologist brings VIP concierge counseling and customized treatment plans to a client’s home or
private location. Coach Smith is an Equine Specialist, Addiction Specialist, Sober Coach and Spiritual
Advisor. He has been working in the recovery field for several years. He has vast personal and professional
experience and knowledge working with addicts and alcoholics. His proven specialties include
working with men and adolescents who have substance abuse and/or process addictions and grief
and loss. He is a professional horseman having spent his entire life around horses. Adding Equine
Assisted Psychotherapy at Miracle Ranch was the fulfillment of a lifetime goal of using horses to assist
others in their growth.
The technical term for the therapeutic services offered at the ranch is Equine Assisted Psychotherapy
[EAP], which is sanctioned and certified by leading non-profit institutions
(EAGALA).
I poured my heart out to the Clinton’s
over the years and have enjoyed and
loved everyone Rainbow H I have seen in
Madam Secretary Hillary Clinton’s run for
the Office of the President of the United
States this year.
Many years ago as a young man in Los
Angeles, while many of my friends were
dying from AIDS, I received a call from
then President Clinton, thanking me for
my participation in the California AIDS
Ride. This is a bike ride in which I was
sponsored by Dan Aykroyd at the House of
Blues to raise money for the Los Angeles
LGBT Community Center.
I love hearing Hillary talk about smart
guns and on Saturday, former president Bill
Clinton talked about holding a million dollar
satellite in his hands made from Nano
Technology.
I was with thousands of LGBT advocates
in Washington DC this year where Hillary
Clinton’s jaw dropped as I told her I walked
across America asking Congress to file the
Equality Act. My jaw dropped to hear her
commit to making it her top priority.
stopped the presidential motorcade in DC
to get out and look at the AIDS Memorial
Quilt.
Former president Bill Clinton was the first
president to attend an LGBT fundraiser at
The Palace in Los Angeles. Madam Secretary
Hillary Clinton was the first person to
tell the world that Gay Rights are Human
Rights in Recognition of International
Human Rights Day in Geneva, Switzerland,
shocking the world. That’s leadership.
This last Saturday I got to hold former
president Bill Clinton’s hand in Pomona
and I said, “Thank you. I really love you so
much”. The Secret Service took my United
States Constitution and returned it to me
signed by him. Now I have the only Constitution
signed by Chelsea, Hillary and Bill.
I am so excited to elect Hillary Clinton.
From my head to my heart, to the voting
booth with all my love, Hillary has my
vote. Ladies and Gentleman, join us as we
elect the most qualified family ever before
JERSEY’S JOURNAL by Jersey Shore
Do you ever just get sick of people
and their behavior? Why must people
act like douche bags all the time?
It starts a chain reaction. I know you
are waiting for me to say it’s up to
you to stop that behavior and try to
be better people. Not gonna happen.
I’m at the point I am just going to sit
back and realize they are dumbasses
and watch them destroy themselves.
It’s impossible to preach especially
if they don’t get off their phones, yet
they still don’t get it. You also give
what you get, so it must be coming
back. Bad days and irritating circumstances
could be fleeting if you were
a bit conscience of your actions.
Oh, there I go preaching. I’m not a
preacher man. Let’s change the subject
to my favorite, sex. I wonder how
many people text during sex? The
mating habits of the Millenniums. I
am officially old. I don’t know what’s
popular in current music and/or
trends. I don’t “get” what the younglings
get. I use words like younglings.
I am like my parents were when I was
a kid. Now I understand the circle of
life. I wonder if I’ll be wearing adult
diapers soon.
It will be interesting to see an old
Jersey kicking away from her walker,
bending over to pick up tips and
having gas and not being able to get
up. It’s Old Age Express and I just
boarded the train.
Peace, Love and Old age,
KEITH HARING - GAY ARTIST AND ACTIVIST
Keith Haring passed away in New York City
in 1990 a victim of AIDS. He was only 31
years old as many of the other young gay
men during that time who succumbed to
the vicious epidemic. At this young age he
had accomplished much and was widely
recognized throughout the art world. His
work has since become internationally
famous and is found in prints and T- shirts
as well as galleries, world wide.
line more expressive in his art. Some of his
art depicted explicit gay sex. One large mural
painted in a subway bathroom in New
York was highly publicized and is shown in
the photo below. One of the most recognized
and reprinted graphics he designed is
the “radiant child” showing an infant crawling
surrounded by radiating lines. This is
seen in the photograph of Keith Haring
wearing a printed shirt with this design, in
his retail shop in SOHO.
After being diagnosed with AIDS in 1989
he created the Keith Haring Foundation
to provide funding for AIDS research and
children’s programs. He worked creating
murals in hospitals and other public building
in France and the United States. The
basic imagery of his art is universally recognized
and appreciated world wide. He was
a friend and contemporary of Andy Warhol
and other prominent art figures of this
period of history. His life is an example of
another gay artist that contributed greatly
to the broad society in spreading enjoyment
and appreciation of art and life.
Growing up in Reading, Pennsylvania it
was obvious at a very young age that he had
skills in drawing and was especially interested
in cartooning and line drawing. He
started formal art training at the Ivy School
of Professional Art in Pittsburgh, studying
commercial art. It soon became apparent
to him that commercial art, at least in the
traditional sense. was not of interest to him.
He continued his art training at the School
of VIsual Arts in New York City. His art
drifted from the classroom to the streets
and subways of the city. His work was Questions, comments, suggestions please contact
at adamsartexpose@gmail.com
directed toward line as a principal means
of expression. He found matt black panels
in the subways on which he began to create
drawings in white chalk. He worked on
these panels as subway passengers walked
by and sometimes engaged him in conversation
about his work. He said that this
provided him a “laboratory” to expand his
ideas and experiment with ways to make
Why Hillary! Will Paige
I doubt our endorsement of Hillary comes as
a shock to many people, as the DDG has been
around than many Bernie supporters where
alive. Longer then they were in diapers, and
loner than all the other LGBT rags have been
in business in Palm Springs California. I can
point to multiple Hillary covers, Bill Clinton
covers and even some Obama covers not a
bad one in the bunch. This is also not to bash
the Republican Party, with the exception of
its Party leader, its anti-gay platform or its
superficial “religiousness” protecting them
from having to stoop so low as to bake cake
for a fag. I can say I was with a great group of
Hillary supporters from Palm Springs that I
consider heroes, but I refrain from mentioning
names because this election has unleashed
more intro-party venom then typical. The work
we did in Nevada was hard and long and from
morning to night, not the drunken Vegas junket
I was expecting. But we remain respectful
in spite of a small group of rabid revolutionaries,
which inspired us to work harder.
The point is, that Bernie may be the future and
we do not intend to debate his issues which
are largely Democratic anyway, with a dash of
workers having more say. On that point, only I
will say that as a manager and observer of life,
workers rightfully strike for fair pay and time
off. I think we all fail to see that this nation
has been defending its own revolution before
1776, when the Canada cut the first trade deal
with the French and tricked us into paying for
it.
If you remember when Al Gore beat Republican
George W. Bush in the popular vote yet
lost the 2000 election, and then decided by the
Supreme Court. We got past that and we will
get past this. So you’re free to disregard this
Hillary endorsement, as we voters never put
faith in any media generally, and it’s doubtful
any endorsement would most drive voters one
way or the other.
But if you’re going to ignore the media, and
you have not closely followed the direction of
our own self-interests going downhill. And
how we got to a point where some states have
rebelled against the LGBT, calling for anti-gay
rights legislation in a decidedly punitive way.
If you can ignore attacks on good people by
twisting immigration laws and citizen efforts
and continue to threaten to defund Planned
Parenthood’s mission to end poverty and strife
by simply offering free counseling to people
that would be shunned by the churches and
other organizations. Then you may be a democrat
after all.
If you trust nothing but the screaming, or the
idea that this or that could prove this or that
with no critical link but just because it’s easier,
you might believe any link exists. You might
believe that building a wall is a start to fixing
immigration, or getting tough on another
nation, or that we are weaker by not rattling
our swords of war. Or even all our laws, with
all our regulations are meaningless because
some rich guy can use his power and influence,
to buy his or her way into everything. If
you believe wealth and income distribution is
a good start to fixing all our problems, along
with break up the banks and a tax on Wall
Street. Then you might be a dreamer too.
Americans are very smart, the same collective
brain that can fight HIV and put a man on
the moon can sway public opinion with mock
You might be surprised even Bernie himself
outrage of even a chair agedly toss in the heat
says it’s an impossible dream, but you may
of a political battle. Every transition of power
Hillary continues from page 32
believe electing him will be a good start. Then
you will not believe anything to the contrary
because there is no way to prove anything will
happen if we do any or all of that. And that is the
funny thing because Trump could put us into a
deeper depression then we have ever seen before.
Again could it be great, if it only helps some but
still horrible for many. So while my endorsement
is for Hillary and not necessarily these that contribute
or work for the magazine they are both
mine and Adrian’s as we are negotiating joint
ownership of the future of the DDG.
Again I don’t need to point out Hillary’s qualifications,
even Bernie agrees with me on that,
he just thinks he is better, and he should. No
one runs and says “I am not as good as the front
runner but I get credit for running right? Ok” he
does say that sometimes as he claims the deck is
stacked against him. And 45% of the nation’s vote
proves he was not silenced.
The reason this magazine makes an endorsement
for Hillary is because, no other candidate has
been there for us for all of the 21 years this magazine
has covered the gay community. There are
literally hundreds of pages of history supporting
Hillary. And while no one seriously argues that
Bernie is also a champion for gay rights that is
not our issue. The same history, we believe the
young are lacking, as they prance and preen on
Pride weekend without a though of our history.
I can tell you that it did not happen until a Pride
existed. But if you would like to know ask me
and I will drop my pants and show you a scare I
have from being stabbed and a gay pride and one
hundred other stories of people getting bashed
and arrested for their rights. Or the story I wrote
about Hurricane Katrina in 2005 how a man
watched them take his lover away without a good
by because he feared that his gayness would be
expose to the rescue workers as they were showed
a distinct deference to LGBT community, or just
a few years ago on a trip to Boston in old caddie
convertible turned ugly for us as we drove down
the wrong street.
You might also not notice that Hillary has been to
the top of the mountain, we blame her husband’s
administration that her use of the word “super
predators” AKA hardened or repeat offender,
launched a sea of racially motivated attacks on
black people, poor people or other minorities.
When the fact could be that perhaps we underestimated,
as we want to do to this day, the level of
racism and bigotry especially in our police force.
As gay people can say amen to anyone who needed
protection for gay assault. Perhaps only one
person alive today knows that bitter truth more
than anyone, and Hillary needs our vote next
week to help our nation heal.
Hillary knows this struggle and while our nations
once again, engage a tremendous legacy of fighting
human rights violations, a revolution even if
it could happen, will not address the inequality
felt by many of us in this nation.
If you fool America by pretending that racial
and other bias cannot be addressed, and use that
to ask us once again stand down and let this
revolution happen, you are no better than the
2008 GOP who claimed the economy was more
important right now than civil justice,. All you
are doing is undermining those that fight for
justice for the people. Justice after all is the only
true genesis for revolutions. And it fucking well
should be the only reason. When that notion
is lost on the other sides, we must fight harder
to make it an issue because it is always the only
issue.
THAT IS FUNNY
When I see lovers’ names carved in a tree, I don’t think it’s sweet. I just think it’s surprising how many
people bring a knife on a date.
Yes, money cannot buy you happiness, but I’d still feel a lot more comfortable crying in a new BMW than on
a bike
What do you get when you cross-breed a shark and a cow?
I have no idea but I wouldn’t try milking it.
9 out of 10 voices in my head are telling me that I am too fat. The last one is calmly preparing a bowl of
chips.
Husband brings the child home from kindergarten and asks his wife, “He’s been crying the whole way home.
Isn’t he sick or something?” “No,” replies the wife, “he was just trying to tell you he isn’t our Frankie.”
Two police officers crash their car into a tree. After a moment of silence, one of them says, “Wow, that’s
got to be the fastest we ever got to the accident site
THE LAST WORD by Greg Pettis
Children and teenagers. The desert has
turned its attention to its young.
This week the Palm Springs School Superintendent
Christine Anderson retired.
She led the district for a number of years,
increasing test scores, expanding learning
academies, building many new campuses
and most important to me, oversaw
the expansion of Gay Straight Alliance
groups into every high school in the district.
She also drafted the full inclusion
policy for Transgendered students.
The Coachella Valley Economic Partnership
board of directors met in Cathedral
City and highlighted their scholarship
efforts.
There was a major roll out of a new app
allowing for reporting of human trafficking
at SafeHouse of the Desert. Elected
officials from Cathedral City and Palm
Desert were in attendance. SafeHouse
does tremendous work and provided
valuable information to those at the event
about how prevalent a problem that this is
in the valley. Coincidentally this was held
the same day as sentencing was issued for
the Desert Hot Springs child pornography
ring.
The Harvey Milk Diversity breakfast took
place with a sold out crowd. Again, focus
on kids. Wonderful stories of our young
people and the struggles and celebrations
they are experiencing. Sen. Mark Leno
and civil rights activist Dolores Huerta
spoke as well.
Bernie Sanders rolled into town for a rest
stop, eating at Las Casuelas and popping
in at Village Fest. He held a rally with
over 5,000 people in San Diego continuing
his message of economic revolution,
but also focused on youth and the need to
get them involved and engaged.
I was encouraged with the emphasis this
week on our young people, but am concerned
about us grownups not maintaining
the focus. Let’s face it folks, with the
median age in Palm Springs being 62, we
have to develop the next crop of leaders
educated, engaged and excited. We must
do it. This is too important to allow others
to do the job. Our work hasn’t ended.
Greg Pettis is a 22 year city councilman in Cathedral
City. He has made his name in governmental circles
as an expert in transportation issues and is very active
in working on bringing passenger rail service to the
COACHELLA Valley. Greg was the first openly gay
elected city council members In Riverside County. He
has served on the boards of the National League of
Cities and the League of California Cities and as President
of the Southern CA Association of Governments.
