Abstract
My thesis deals with the phenomenon of whistleblowing according to Niklas Luhmanns
theories.
I have described whistleblowing as it appears in most articles and literature i.e. from an
individual perspective in chapter 2.
The theories I use, are those of Niklas Luhmann about social systems. The weight of my
thesis is in chapter 3, where I focus on the theories. It has been necessary for me to put
the main emphasis on his theories, as they are both complicated and difficult to access.
As Luhmanns theories deals with social systems, it is the systemic perspective, which has
been used in looking upon the phenomenon in chapter 4. I have divided my analysis in
three parts.
After the opening part of chapter four, I analyze the general concept of whistleblowing. The
tools of my analysis I have got from Luhmanns theories, dealt with in chapter 3. In the last
part of the chapter I have my analytical tools to work on a specific whistleblowing case –
Frank Grevil.
Chapter 5 contains both a discussion of my thesis –”can whistleblowing as a concept be
depersonalized” and conclusions of my findings.
