60. Distinction in use <strong>of</strong> adverbs.<br />

1. Gait (wrong) and daarlig (poorly) are <strong>of</strong>ten<br />

used as positive instead '<strong>of</strong> ilde, while the comparative<br />

and superlative are retained. Daarlig is also compared<br />

regularly.<br />

til endnu, Conditions (or things) are<br />

Ofte and tit are synonyms; but <strong>of</strong>te is more emphatic<br />

preferred in common usage. Sometimes<br />

both are used: Det hinder tit<br />

og <strong>of</strong>te.<br />

3. a. >Gjerne has no exact English equivalent, but<br />

may be rendered in various ways. It connotes the idea<br />

<strong>of</strong> willingness where the element <strong>of</strong> will or volition may<br />

enter in; otherwise it connotes readiness or possibility.<br />

4. Litet and litt<br />

usually have the same meaning.<br />

Litet is the neuter <strong>of</strong> the adjective lit en, hence it is the<br />

regular adverbial form. But before other adjectives and<br />

adverbs, litt is used in place<br />

<strong>of</strong> litet.<br />

Det er litt sent. It is a little late.<br />

Her er litt papir. Here is some paper.<br />

Han Iceste for He litet. read (studied) too little.
