Rauchgasdichte Smokedensity
Das Entstehen vonRauch hat mehrere unangenehme Folgen.
Zumeinenbeeinträchtigtesdurch die Sichttrübung die Flucht-
möglichkeiten der vomBrand Eingeschlossenen und behindert
die Lösch- undRettungsmassnahmen,zum anderen führteszu
Rauchvergiftungen (Kohlenmonoxid).BezüglichRauchgasent-
wicklung schneidet PVCbesonders schlecht ab.Dies istaber
nicht, wieirrtümlicherweise häufig angenommen wird, aufdas
PVCzurückzuführen, sondernauf die Additive, die dem PVCbei-
gefügt werden.Insbesondere dieWeichmacher führennor-
malerweisezueiner beträchtlichen Rauchentwicklung.
Prüfverfahren
DiePrüfung der Rauchdichte brennender Kabelerfolgt durch
Messen der Lichtdurchlässigkeit. Kabelprobenwerden in einer
Prüfkammer (Würfelmit 3mKantenlänge)mit Alkoholentzün-
det. Dermit einemkleinenVentilator gleichmässigverteilte
Theformation of smokehas severalunpleasantconsequences.
On one handitconsiderablylowers thevisibilityinafire event,
thus impedingthe peopletrapped inside closed roomsescape
of andthe efforts of the firemen to carryontheir rescue andfire
fightingactions.Onthe other handitproducessmokepoison-
ingbecauseofthe carbon monoxide.Regardingthe formation
of thecombustiongases thePVC comesoffquite badly.
However, thiscannot be blamed on thePVC,asfrequently
assumed.Infact, it is caused by theadditives includedinthe
PVC–particularly thesofteningagents,which normallyleadto
considerablesmokeproduction.
Test procedures
Thedensity of smokeemissioncan be determined by measuring
of the lightpenetrability.Cable samples are litwithalcohol in a
test chamber (cubical with an edge lengthof3m).The so
formedsmokeisuniformly spread by aventilatorand influences
thelight measuring section.
Thetestisconsidered to be passed if thefollowing light
penetrability is reached:
Hazard level Requirements
