Alberto Alessi was born in
Arona (Novara) in 1946.
Elder son of Carlo, and first of
the Alessi third generation, he
joins the family company in
1970 after the degree in law at
the Università Cattolica in
Milan.
Since 1970 he has developed a
close net of collaborations with
architects and designers all over
the world, making Alessi one of
the most important names in
the international design field.
He is currently managing director
and general manager for strategic
marketing, communication
and design management.
He has written La Citura di
Orione. Storia, tecnica e uso dei
recipienti da cottura in metallo
per la grande cucina, Milano,
Longanesi, 1986, Not in production,
next to production,
Crusinallo, Alessi, 1988 and
La Fabbrica dei Sogni, Electa,

He collaborates with many
reviews and international publications,
writing on the design
theme, and occasionally he is
visiting professor in certain
design schools.
He is member of the Academic
Board of the UIAH in Helsinki
and of the Honorary Committee
of the Design Museum in
London.
Senior Fellow at the Royal
College of Art in London.
Honorary Professor of the
Hochschule der Bildenden
Künste Saar in Saarbrücken.
Doctor Honoris Causa at the
UIAH in Helsinki.
Doctor of Fine Arts at the
Miami University in Oxford,
Ohio.
In 1998 he got the Design
Award for Lifetime Achievement
from the Brooklyn
Museum of Art.
