10. PC Update Programm VPT-50x/6xx
It is possible to carry out any software updates that occur through the serial interface of the pan/tilt head. A bootloader program is installed in the pan/tilt head for this,
which is always active for about 3 seconds after the pan/tilt head is switched on and before the actual initialization starts. At this time, the update program can start the
loading of the update from the PC. The PC upload program is available on the supplied CD-ROM.
Requirements
Windows 2000 / Windows XP. The PC should have at least one serial interface; a RS-232/RS-485/-422 converter is required for the connection between the PC and the
pan/tilt head.
Data transfer is bi-directional, and ideally full duplex mode (RS-422) should be selected for communication.
Starting the upload
When the program starts, a user interface appears on the PC screen as shown above.
The user selects a free serial interface on the PC using „COM port”.
In addition, the baud rate, the address and the path to the BIN file must be specified. The baud rate and the address must conform to the parameters of the pan/tilt head.
The BIN file contains the actual firmware for the pan/tilt head and will be provided by Videor in the case of any changes.
The upload is started using the „Upload Start” key, and the current upload status will be displayed if the run is not interrupted.
After the upload, the pan/tilt head will automatically be re-initialized. The upload takes about 1 minute.
During updating, bi-directional communication must be guaranteed between the PC and the pan/tilt head.
NOTE: The pan/tilt head is only ready for an update during the first three seconds after switching on. Thereafter the bootloader will pass the control to the
actual pan/tilt head program and will no longer be able to be addressed until the next power reset.
The bootloader is stored in the system and cannot be deleted.
If the upload is interrupted, it can simply be restarted.
From Version 1.2 onwards (refer to version on your CD) the update program of the VPT-50x/6xx Pan/Tilt Head allows an update during operation without having to
power down the equipment.
Prior to updating the device the same settings have to be made in the program as in the Pan/Tilt Head (protocol, baud-rate and address). By clicking the left mouse-button
on the file icon the BIN file can be download onto the Pan/Tilt Head.

Please check for correct DIP-settings!
The installed firmware can be viewed by clicking onto „SW Version?” The version is shown on the bottom left hand corner.
