In the focus of this seminar are the problems and challenges concerning the construction of machines<br />
that act together with other machines and human beings. We are going to pursue a multidisciplinary<br />
perspective and will read literature from philosophy and the sciences (particularly biology and psychology),<br />
as well as study how these approaches are realized in natural and artificial systems like<br />
software agents and robots. The class serves also as a preparation for a conference about these topics<br />
that is going to take place in <strong>Stuttgart</strong> in summer <strong>2013</strong>. Since the conference language will be English,<br />
the class is taught in English in order to get used to the relevant terminology. However, do not worry,<br />
your English does not have to be perfect to participate and you may, of course, occasionally switch to<br />
German when needed. So if you are interested, do not hesitate, have a little courage, and get involved!<br />
Students from the natural sciences and engineering are also explicitly invited.<br />
