Dual studieren
erforderlichen Prüfungen in ihrem Ausbildungsberuf.
Durchschnittlich
bemühen sich rund 50 Schulabgänger um einen
Platz. In Einzelfällen gehen in großen Unternehmen
über 1.000 Bewerbungen für einen kombinierten Ausbildungs-
und Studienplatz ein. Die Perspektiven auf dem
Arbeitsmarkt sind sehr gut. Die Unternehmen bieten diese
Ausbildungsvariante an, weil sie qualifiziertes Personal
schon früh an sich binden möchten. Die meisten
Studierenden erhalten ein Übernahmeangebot ihrer
Ausbildungsbetriebe.
Dual studies
Dual degree courses are a special form of higher education,
which represent an ideal combination of academic
and practical training. In this type of course, students
sign an employment contract with a company and also
enrol at university. During the semester, they attend university,
and in the semester break, they work in the company
and also take the required exams in their training
occupation. At the end of the course, students qualify
with both an academic title and a state-recognised vocational
qualification. As in dual vocational training, the employer
pays a salary. Depending on the agreement, they
may also pay university fees.
Most dual courses are in business, technology and social
studies. For example, bankers and office assistants
can study business at the same time, while engineers
can gain practical insights as masons or electricians.
The Federal Institute for Vocational Training database
contains over 700 dual study courses: www.ausbildungplus.de
A dual degree course requires early planning and application
to a company. Currently, demand exceeds the
number of places available. On average, approximately
50 school-leavers apply for each place. In individual
cases, large companies may receive over 1,000 applications
for combined vocational training and higher education
places. The prospects on the labour market are very
good. Companies offer this type of education and training
because they want to bind qualified staff to them at
an early stage. Most students are offered jobs with the
training company afterwards.
Integration problems
Although many foreign students enrol at German colleges
and universities, only half of these graduate in Germany.
According to scientific estimates, the graduation ratio
is between 35 and 50 per cent. It is not known whether
the remainder give up entirely or continue in their home
country.
