whether this imbalance is an acute adaptation to the intrauterine environment or whether this imbalance
is due to persistent changes in the sympathicus/vagus system, which could then be transported into juvenile
and adult life with the consequence of elevated blood pressure and higher rates of hypertension,
coronary heart disease, atherosclerosis and metabolic changes later in life It is the aim of this study to
evaluate whether the dysbalance of the sympathicus/vagus-systems in growth retarded fetuses persists
into newborn life, when the environment and nutrition of the newborn is adequate.
Multimodality imaging of the female pelvic floor
Aim: Evaluation of the female pelvic floor using volumesonography and MRI
Methods: Patients having an MRI for pelvic floor assessment were also evaluated with volume sonography.
Pelvic floor morphology is evaluated in a multimodality approach in the same volume image.
Outcome variables: Depiction of anal spincter and paravaginal support in the various modes. Volumometry
of anatomical structures (anal sphincter, urethra, levator) and comparison of estimates in various
modes.
Nuchal cord entanglements in term and post-term deliveries – Necessity for sonographic assessment
–
Objective: The impact of nuchal cord entanglements on perinatal features at delivery Design: Systematic
retrospective analysis of computerised data Population: 11748 women with planned vaginal deliveries
including 9574 term and 2174 post-term deliveries Methods: Data are obtained from our perinatal database
Perinat 3 between 1995 and 2004. All singleton, vertex, term and post-term pregnancies with
planned vaginal delivery are analyzed after exclusion of incomplete or unreliable data. Main outcome
measures: Intrapartum events, clinical peripartal management, mode of delivery and neonatal outcome
Nuchal cords in term and postterm deliveries - do we need to know
Objective: To analyze the effect of nuchal cords on perinatal
features at delivery of term and postterm pregnancies.
Methods: A total of 11,748 women with planned vaginal
deliveries, including 9,574 term and 2,174 postterm deliveries,
were analyzed for intrapartum events, clinical peripartum
management, mode of delivery, and neonatal outcome. The
presence of nuchal cords was diagnosed clinically at the time
of delivery. Data were obtained from our perinatal database
between 1995 and 2004 for retrospective analysis.
Results: The incidence of nuchal cords in term and postterm
deliveries was 33.7% and 35.1%, respectively. Multiple nuchal
cords were present in 5.8% of term and 5.5% of postterm
deliveries. Intrapartum signs of fetal compromise were increased
in all groups, albeit not all reaching statistical significance
