Vorwort
In
bewilligt. Bis zur Fertigstellung 2014/2015 ist die Anmietung
von Räumen in Rostock Warnemünde und Groß Lüsewitz unumgänglich.
Foreword
New laboratory areas
To engage in catalysis research at a high scientific level, and to
be internationally competitive, what is called for is a grouping
together of research resources. With this in mind, at the end of
2005, following a recommendation by the German Council of
Science and Humanities, the Leibniz Institute for Organic Catalysis
at the University of Rostock (IfOK) and the Institute for
Applied Chemistry, Berlin-Adlershof (ACA) merged, in forming
the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis at the University of Rostock
(LIKAT Rostock). The donors followed the recommendations of
the German Council for Science and Humanities and have rapidly
created a solution in terms of facilities: this is adapted to
match the existing requirements – namely an extension building
unit at the Rostock site – so that all areas of competence are
integrated. After a construction phase spanning roughly three
years, and a construction sum of ca. 12 million Euro, the main
floor space for LIKAT in Rostock was extended by 2,432 m 2 .
Accordingly, our former Berlin colleagues’ move to the Rostock
campus also signals the physical bringing together of research
into homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis.
Today more than 270 staff and guests at LIKAT have modern laboratory
and office space which is furnished so as to match the
latest technical state of the art. Despite the building work, the
area at our disposal in southern Rostock does not offer working
facilities to all employees. A third section of the construction,
providing 1,900 m 2 main floor space, has been endorsed by the
donors. Up until completion in 2014 / 2015, there is no way
around the need to hire working space in Rostock’s Warnemünde
district and in Gross Lüsewitz.
