Hanns-Braun Stadium with new track
Berlin has a variety of excellent sport facilities at its disposal. In this historical city, modern construction methods –
from heated artificial turf to the latest athletic equipment - have been used for many years. The German capital is a pioneer
in the use of artificial turf and the majority of full-size playing pitches are equipped with synthetic turf surfaces.
Berlin also has state-of-the-art athletic facilities for professional as well as popular and school sport use.
One example of this is the Hanns-Braun Stadium which now
appears in new splendour. In 2008, Polytan laid a new sandwich track
system with in-situ installation using the 're-topping' method and replacing
the original track in less than two months with a blue Polytan
M track surface.
A high degree of functional longevity and high quality is demanded of
all sports facilities whether for inside or outside use. For school, popular
or professional sport, along with the above-mentioned factors, an economically
interesting solution is also required. This means that tracks
with different construction methods can be adapted to suit different requirements.
Important features of optimum quality of synthetic surfaces
are, among others, the performance of the surface, quality of installation
and after-sales service.
● High quality performance of a sport surface signifies maximum durability,
abrasion resistance, elasticity and long-term stability. The
sport surface should be approved as per the standard DIN 18035/6
and monitored as per RAL regulations. High-performance sports
surfaces, as well as those for school and popular sport,
require a spike-resistant top surface and approval from a sports-medicine
point of view. Especially when installed outdoors, all
synthetic surfaces must have high UV-stability and be weather
resistant. For ecological reasons, attention must be paid to a high
recycling quota and optimal use of the installed raw materials.
● Top installation quality is ensured in that all components of a
modern athletic track are delivered by one manufacturer and installation
is carried out by in-house technicians using specialised
equipment. This reduces the co-ordination required, makes planning
and work execution easier and guarantees that all components
used are aligned to suit each other and the intended purpose.
● The important features of a customer-friendly after-sales
service are availability at short notice, an adequate cost-performance
ratio and professional work execution. Good after-sales
service ensures long-term durability of athletic tracks.
The pour-coated surface Polytan M is extremely durable and
elastic. It is made up of a basic layer, a surface pore sealant and top
surface layer. The top surface layer is pourable PUR sprinkled with
elastic EPDM granules. The waterproof surface is approved following
biomechanical and sport-medical testing and has very high
resistance to UV radiation. In addition, the track coating surface is
extremely resistant to spikes and offers optimal damping and excellent
speed. It is certified Class 1 by the IAAF and is especially
suitable for use in professional and high-class competitive sporting
events.
The co-operation with the sports club Hertha BSC Berlin is an
example of a mutually trusting and successful partnership lasting
many years. The Hanns-Braun stadium in the Berlin Olympia Park,
modernised by Polytan, was opened to great applause by Dieter
Hoeneß, Managing Director of Hertha BSC. This ultra-modern
athletic facility will be used as training centre for the 12th IAAF
athletic world championships held in Berlin from August 15 - 23,
2009.
