what do the important awards that you have already won in
your young career mean to you?
it is an incredible honour to rank among artists who are believed
to be the rising stars this year. the competition as such is not so
important to me, i essentially see it as an obligation to make the
best music i can.
you produced songs that do not sound like mainstream.
where does this self-confidence come from?
that is difficult to say because i reached that point indirectly.
i have written quite different sorts of music for ten years. i started
as an acoustic singer-songwriter with blues songs. All those
songs however were half-hearted and imperfect because at that
time i focused on getting attention and less on the music. if i had
already had the success, which i have today, as a teenager,
i would probably have ended up in a different corner of the music
industry and not developed to where i am now.
to play the songs with the help of a band during concerts but
that didn’t work – and i could also not afford them in the long
run. i therefore bought the necessary equipment and jumped
in at the deep end. And as the audience like that i am pianist,
guitarist and drummer i have not changed that since then.
another specialty is the change between loud and soft, fast
and slow – also in the same song.
this dynamics has always been important to me. music would
not exist if there was no silence to fill. those who only make noise
for three minutes throw away half the range of expression they
actually have available.
why do you always perform solo?
A few years ago when i already worked with electronic elements
in a studio but only played acoustic guitar live on stage, i tried
