JB: Johannes Bergmann, Dance Dramaturg/TanzArt Staff
Which special events do you remember?
MR: I remember in particular that the whole festival was
humming with a positive vibe. A symbol for that was when in
the early hours of the morning the dancers arrived for training
and you could actually see the positive atmosphere come in
through the door, but certainly all the other moments in cooperation
with the interns, the TCG team, the departments in
the house and with Tarek, which I will keep in good memory,
too.
JB: The encounters with the guests from China and the beautiful
guest performance trips with the TCG which are part of
the festival. And of course, the extremely open and interested
audience as well as the atmosphere before and at the gala in
the main auditorium.
How did you feel as the festival was running?
SR: A very dominant feeling for many participants was relief.
I remember when after six months of planning some of the
guest artists were standing in the foyer of the studio stage having
a cheerful conversation. It was clear to me then that the
festival had succeeded in one of its most important aspects.
JB: I was right in the middle of it all and felt extremely glad
when everything was running smoothly. I felt like I was a live
wire, full of energy, despite the very short nights. But the
friendliness and sincerity of the international dancers and
companies compensated for any stress during the preparations.
It was like a holiday if you could watch a guest performance.
But the most important thing for me is, that everything
is running smoothly behind the scenes.
MR: I remember well the moment when the gala had begun:
when the audience finally was seated und things took off, I got
on my way back to the office. As I was heading towards Schulstrasse
the sun was shining over my shoulder and in this moment
it became clear to me that everything had worked out
and I had helped in making the festival a success.
Did things get stressful sometimes?
SR: A hectic pace and stress were definitively part of our
work. I remember a misunderstanding leading to a ticket chaos
on the evening of the gala. Admission had started while we
Was habt ihr während eurer Arbeit in

were still busy sorting out reserved tickets for sponsors and
artistic guests. The available seats were distributed indiscriminately
in the main auditorium and sitting together was impossible.
Till the beginning of the show we were busy organizing
the new seating and handing out tickets at the same time.
JB: If you went to the airport at four in the morning to pick
up festival guests, you were always glad not to catch the rush
hour traffic jam on the opposite side on the way back. Although
we could have passed the time much more pleasantly
with our nice guests and exciting conversations (smiles).
What did you learn during your time
organizing the festival?
MR: To keep my head cool, even when things get bubbly!
JB: How much time planning takes and how to contact all
the most different festival partners (from school volunteer to
lord mayor) individually.
Do you have suggestions for improvements
with the festival organization?
SR: I think the best thing that could happen to the festival
would be an organization team that could stay on for several
years in a row. Some external conditions would have to be
adapted for that.
JB: Yes, for instance one regular fulltime position in festival
management. Tasks like fund raising, correspondence, contact
management and the association´s administration could
