FLORIDA ARTISTS REACT TO DESANTIS
A-SLEEP BIOGOTRY AND HATRED
The DeSantis verbal onslaught on
WOKE puts him and his disoriented
followers in the category of A.-SLEEP
by keeping them in the dark. The term
WOKE commonly refers to progressive
activism and injustice in America.
WOKE, or, awake refers to being openminded,
curious, empathetic, open to
learning from various perspectives and
a willingness to challenge one’s own
biases. Being WOKE means having a
constructive attitude to help understand
ourselves and others. These are all
attributes that describe the artistic
mentality and the primary reason
that the challenges and restrictions
that DeSantis brings to artists and to
society, in general, who are striving
to be creative and humane require
immediate and urgent action.
during the last several months while the search committee took on the important task of finding a permanent CEO. I could not be
happier to welcome Mike Thompson back into this role. I know I join the staff and the Board of Directors in welcoming Mike back and
for this exciting new chapter for The Center.”
asking: How do I move on? Will the
cancer come back? Who am I now?
Why can I not connect with my friends
hurdles like guilt, fear, loneliness and
being overwhelmed by what one just
went through.
providing a no-cost opportunity for
survivors locally and beyond who have
finished their active treatments to gather
What is deep thinking?
Deep thinking is a state of being
where people can concentrate
uninterrupted to find creative or
outside-the-box solutions. It’s a
process where people can open their
minds to new possibilities and work
through different scenarios and
perspectives.
“Among Donald Trump’s many ignoble accomplishments
is the explosive rise in the national debt under his watch.
It rose to $7.8 trillion during his time in the White House.
George W. Bush also saw a massive increase in the national
we can help prevent the many conflicts
based on poverty, discrimination
and exclusion (social, economic and
political) that continue to plague
humanity and destroy decades of
development efforts. The vicious circle
of human rights violations that lead to
conflicts-which in turn lead to more
violations-must be broken. I believe we
can break it only by ensuring respect
for all human rights.”—former United
Nations High Commissioner for Human
Rights, Mary Robinson
Join Us This Saturday for the Last
Day of the Outdoor Season! The PS
Certified Farmers’ Market Moves
Indoors June 10th
As the temperature rises, the Original
Palm Springs Certified Farmers’ Market
is preparing for its customary annual
relocation. This Saturday, May 27th,
marks the last day of our outdoor
season. As we close another successful
chapter, we’re filled with gratitude for
the continued support from our local
community. Your commitment to buying
local and sustaining family farms makes
all the difference! Please join us this
Saturday for our final day of farm-fresh
fun in the sun until fall.
To ensure the comfort of both our
patrons and produce, the Market
will transition from its current outdoor
location at the Palm Springs Cultural
Center to the air-conditioned Palm
Springs Pavilion, at 401 S Pavilion Way
on June 10th, after a one week break.
Our operating hours remain the same:
Saturdays, 8am - 1pm. The Palm
Springs Certified Farmers’ Market is a
program of the 501(c)(3) non-profit
Palm Springs Cultural Center and is
able to operate year round thanks to
the generous sponsorship of
Now Delivering Every 2 Weeks
the City of Palm Springs, the Spa Resort
Casino, and Porsche Palm Springs.
Summer sponsorship opportunities are
still available.
The Palm Springs Cultural Center
operates the only mission-driven farmers’
markets in the region. Not only can
customers of the Original Palm Springs
Certified Farmers’ Market use their EBT
card to shop the Market, they can
also participate in Market Match, the
only nutrition incentive program in
the Coachella Valley. Market Match
provides a dollar-for-dollar match for
shoppers’ CalFresh EBT benefits at
participating farmers’ markets, enabling
low-income families to purchase more
healthy fruits and vegetables. For
example, if a customer spends $15 in
CalFresh benefits, participating farmers’
markets provide a matching $15 credit
to double the customer’s purchasing
power for fresh fruits and vegetables.
Additionally, the Riverside County WIC
Office will be distributing Farmers Market
Nutrition Program vouchers throughout
the summer, and WIC recipients will
receive more information from local WIC
representatives via text or email.
LGBT Tech Launches Season 3 of PATHS Interviews to Kick Off Pride Month
PATHS is a program of LGBT Tech that is dedicated to building space for LGBTQ+ individuals in
STEAM fields through education grants, mentorship, and interviews creating visibility of current
LGBTQ+ STEAM professionals. The program aims to inspire and empower new generations of
LGBTQ+ community members to pursue careers in STEAM fields. On June 1st, PATHS will
release its third season of interviews with LGBTQ+ STEAM professionals and students.
A lack of LGBTQ+ representation in STEAM professions poses barriers not only for entry into
STEAM fields for LGBTQ+ individuals, but also creates issues around retention and employee
wellbeing within these fields. The PATHS program was founded with the mission to create this
visibility in order to inspire new generations of LGBTQ+ individuals to pursue careers in STEAM.
PATHS conducts interviews with professionals from across the LGBTQ+ community and across
STEAM fields to create visibility of their experiences and their existence in those spaces. This
new season of PATHS features professionals working in film, technical writing, cybersecurity,
accessibility and design, mathematics, engineering and DEI; ranging from tech company
co-founders to STEAM students in leadership roles at their universities.
“I think one of the biggest barriers is representation: you can’t be what you don’t see, which is
why I got involved [in STEAM program]. In the end, this is a community we are trying to build
within STEAM that allows for a variety of experiences to help build better products and
services.” -Alma Rinasz, Co-founder of Latinas in Cyber (PATHS S3, Episode 1)
Season 3 of PATHS was made possible by PATHS’ generous program supporters including
Danaher Community Impact, T-Mobile, Comcast NBCUniversal, AT&T, Sony, and Meta.
In celebration of Pride Month, PATHS season 3 episodes will be released weekly on Thursday
throughout June and into July.
DeSantis and his followers alternatively
attempt to discriminate against freedom
and diversity. The bigotry of the anti-
WOKE rhetoric attacks vulnerable
individuals and groups and plots to
normalize that bigotry and spread
hatred. This harms and endangers
people that have been selected for
hate including trans and LGBTQ and
people of color including anyone who
is AWAKE and opposes book banning,
and believes in educational courses
in critical race theory, vaccinations,
sexuality, and an unadulterated history
of our country.
Disney has also withdrawn a planned
upgrade to their Florida business worth
one billion dollars and two thousand
jobs.
This guy is running for president! We all
need to be activists in any way we can
in preventing this poisonous rhetoric
and action from becoming normal and
accepted.
Artists and businesses including the
Disney Corporation have experienced
the DeSantis autocratic repression. The
response has been active by artists,
individuals, and corporations. Actors,
musicians, graphic and visual artists, and
performing artists have been doing their
part in exposing and repelling the
DeSantis’s lying and hate-mongering.
