EUROVOLLEY CAPTIVATES THE TYROL
The major sports event of the year looms on the
horizon. From 10–18 September, Europe‘s volleyball
elite will be visiting Innsbruck and Vienna
to take part in EuroVolley 2011, which will take
place in Austria and the Czech Republic. This
home European Championship is expected to
be an initial spark for Austrian volleyball at all
levels.
The goals for the next years have been clearly
defined. The volleyball men aim to participate
in the Olympic Games in 2016 and want to go
for a medal four years later. The first highlight on
the way is the home European Championship, of
course, for which the national team is preparing
meticulously.
The home European Championship is also expected
to help in lastingly attracting young people.
85,000 students will be participating in the
SchulAction, a side project for students. As a
highlight of the EuroVolley SchulAction, students
will have the opportunity to see some of the
Championship matches live at Innsbruck Olympiaworld
and at Vienna City Hall.
Groups of 12 students and one teacher each will
get to closely observe the volleyball players and
to meet fans from all over Europe. In Innsbruck,
these will, of course, mainly come from Italy,
France, Belgium and Finland.
But there are quite a few other interesting initiatives
in the run-up to EuroVolley 2011. The Wahrheit
advertising agency has, for example, created
the probably first sports image campaign
in Austria. The motto is: „Volleyball - Powerful.
Underestimated.“ This year, the power of volleyball
can be best observed during EuroVolley in
September, when the European Great Powers
of volleyball will show their tremendous skills in
Innsbruck and Vienna.
