CHAPTER 6 . SHOPPING
BATH & BEAUTY PRODUCTS & DAY SPAS
Hove Founded in 1931, Hove is the oldest perfumery in
the city. It features all-natural scents (except the musk, which is synthetic),
and the selection is almost overwhelming. Strips with various
options, for both men and women, are laid out to help you.
They have some original creations (“Kiss in the Dark”) and some
very Southern smells, such as vetiver and tea olive. This is the place
to establish your signature scent, and a good choice for unique presents
for people back home. Lit buffs will be amused by the letter
from author Tom Robbins, confirming that the shop in his Jitterbug
Perfume was more or less based on Hove’s appearance. 824 Royal St.
& 504/525-7827. www.hoveparfumeur.com. Mon–Sat 10am–5pm.
Ritz-Carlton Spa The finest spa in just about any town,
the newly refurbished Ritz spa is tranquil, majestic, classy, lush—
and costly. But who cares? With this kind of atmosphere, not to
mention the new Prada treatment line, it’s all about the pampering.
In addition to a wide range of exotic scrubs and rubs, plus wraps,
water treatments, and more, they have a luxe sauna and relaxation
areas, and a full-service salon for beauty treatments. 921 Canal St.
& 504/524-1331. www.ritzcarlton.com. Daily 9am–8pm.
