GAY NIGHTLIFE 197
“always snappy casual!” The local clientele is happy to offer suggestions
about where you might find the type of entertainment you’re
looking for. Downstairs is a mahogany bar and a pool table. Upstairs
is the quiet Queens Head Pub, which was recently decorated in the
style of a Victorian English pub. The bar is open 24 hours. 740
Dauphine St. & 504/566-7191. www.goodfriendsbar.com.
LeRoundup LeRoundup attracts the most diverse crowd around.
You’ll find transsexuals lining up at the bar with drag queens and
well-groomed men in khakis and Levi’s. Expect encounters with
working boys. It’s open 24 hours. 819 St. Louis St. & 504/561-8340.
DANCE CLUBS
Oz Oz is the place to see and be seen, with a primarily young
crowd (like its across-the-street neighbor, The Bourbon Pub–Parade
Disco; see above). It was ranked the city’s best dance club by Gambit
magazine, and Details magazine named it one of the top 50 clubs
in the country. The music is great, there’s an incredible laser-light
show, and from time to time there are go-go boys atop the bar. Oz
hosts frequent theme nights, so call ahead if you’re going and want
to dress accordingly. 800 Bourbon St. & 504/593-9491. www.ozneworleans.
