7 Operating failures and their causes<br />

Failure Cause Elimination<br />

<strong>Winch</strong> does not operate<br />

Load does not stop when<br />

motor is switches off<br />

<strong>Winch</strong> will not lift load, is<br />

overheating, and / or does<br />

not lift at rated speed.<br />

<strong>Winch</strong> raises but will not<br />

lower.<br />

<strong>Winch</strong> lowers but will not<br />

raise<br />

Oil leak<br />

Disposal:<br />

No power to winch motor Check connections, plugs, cables and fuses<br />

Motor is connect wrong Check terminals and if necessary change<br />

phasing of hoist.<br />

Fuse is effective Insert new fuse, press button.<br />

Incorrect voltage or frequency<br />

Compare voltage and frequency rating on<br />

winch name plate with power supply<br />

Check for voltage drop at winch power<br />

supply connection while winch is operated<br />

under load.<br />

Contactor failure Check contactor for wear and burn marks, if<br />

necessary replace<br />

<strong>Winch</strong> is overloaded check suspended load. reduce the load<br />

(unlock overload protection switch)<br />

Motor is burned out. Replace motor.<br />

Brake does not open Check electricity supply<br />

Defective transformer Check transformer, if necessary replace.<br />

Motor brake is worn out Send wire rope winch in for inspection (see<br />

page 34)<br />

Brake is incorrectly electrically con- Check electrical connection and change it<br />

nected<br />

<strong>Winch</strong> is overloaded. Reduce load to rated capacity.<br />

Rotor is dragging in stator. Check for wear motor bearings.<br />

Voltage to low. Check voltage at winch power source connections<br />

with winch under load.<br />

"Down" or "Up" circuit is open. Check circuit for loose connections.<br />

Check limit switch for correct adjustment<br />

Fault in the control circuit Have the fault eliminated by a competent<br />

person<br />

Improper oil plug. Install proper oil plug with gasket.<br />

Oil plug is loosened. Tighten plug.<br />

No oil plug gasket. Put in new gasket.<br />

Oil ventilation plug at wrong place<br />

(overhead situated).<br />

If leak occurs at places other than oil<br />

plug.<br />

Replace oil ventilation plug with oil filling<br />

plug.<br />

Check for loose bolts in gearing and tighten.<br />

Check other sealing in gear box and replace<br />

if necessary.<br />

Call service department<br />

After having placed out of service, the parts of the hand winch have to be recycled or<br />

disposed according to legal regulations!<br />
