Equal diversity i. found among host cou-ntries with
reference to the way in which they treat refugees. Zctswana,
Lesotho, and Kenya favor una. solut:orns .= refugse
problems, preferring absorption and assi-atcn rathar .. ha.-.
isolation in camps. However, as the numers of refugeis .rzw,
these countries are increasincly aware -nat refugees c ,.pete
for jobs, politicize and ;-ae ca:a, a er:i bur-ens
on their own societies. They view refugee care as pa:t.ly td-.eiown
responsibility and partly that of "ha international
conuaity.
Swaziland, fearing controversy with South Africa, tends
t, isolate refugees to a certain extent from society. This is
officially (and perhaps realistically) rationalized as a necessary
measure to protect the refugees from abduction by South
African security agents across the nearby frontier. The
Government of Swaziland (GO3) is ambivale:r: in regard to
refugee support, providing some limited facilities but
looking to international donors for most assistance.
