countries in Africa, with 80% unemployment. The Milk and Medicine program
goes out into the community once a month and leaves with the various families
on the list a months supply of food supplements and the necessary medicine
for the children. Truly this is a program that saves lives.
The mission of Church Women United is still to be a light in our diverse
society. For the 2008-2012 Quadrennial Priorities we have selected the
following issues. Health: and to support programs that educate and
encourage a healthy lifestyle and that will promote preventive health care.
Environmental Care: God has given us dominion over creation. It is our
responsibility as Christians to be our brothers and sisters keeper and to help
create or maintain clean water and unpolluted air, to create or uphold all the
laws that regulate a balance between humanity and nature. Peace: within the
individual person, peace and harmony in our relationships within the family
and with our fellow human beings. We are also addressing peace in our
communities (non-violence against women and children) and internationally.
Economic Justice: we are working with other community organizations to
raise the public’s awareness about the unfair treatment of women in the job
market as well as the unfair treatment of the older women in our society.
Trafficking of our women and children is also being addressed.
The Fellowship of the Least Coin is one of the favorite ministries of the ladies of
Church Women United. At our local, state and regional meetings the offering
container is placed on each of the dinner tables. As the ladies make their
contributions a prayer is read from our “Circle of Prayer” book. It is rewarding
to know that your small gift of love can come together with offerings from
other women and they can make such a difference in the lives of women and
children all over the world.
Let us now invite you all to our 70th Birthday Celebration in December of
2011. We are returning to the roots of our origin, Atlantic City, New Jersey.
For 70 years Church Women United has been a light of love and compassion
advocating for women, children and the family, and bringing the message of
salvation in Jesus Christ.
