9. Sensitization Workshops on Women’s Bill, Gambia, $5,000
The project of Women’s Affairs and Family life Sub-Committee of The
Gambia Christian Council aims to enable Christian women to participate
fully in the advocacy for changes in laws which affect them as women and
as Christians in particular. Through series of workshops the project will
educate Christian women on The Women’s Bill, the laws of The Gambia
i.e. the Constitution and other women related laws. This will provide a
forum for Christian women to discuss and debate on issues/laws which
constrain the enhancement of their status in the Church and society, and
make recommendations for change.
EUROPE
1. Project “Needle”, Poland, $5, 000
The project of “Polska YWCA” aims to help strengthen a group of out-ofwork
and marginalized women, of Bielorussian origin and belonging to
Orthodox Church, by training them to sew and open small enterprises
with sewing services. It is a continuation of the training started in 1998
for women in the marginalized area of “Poland B” to learn to repair clothes
for poor people. Now the thrust is for the women to have their own
economy activity to overcome their poverty. Especially such activity is
needed in the area close to the East boarder of Poland, close to Bielorussia.
Women living here are much less educated and have much less access to
education and other forms of trainings.
2. Applying religion to encourage recognizing similarities among
differences, Bosnia $5,000
This project of Citizens’ Association Medica Zenica aims at education
of women through wealth of their own experience to be able to see
similarities through differences in religions. It involves gathering 75-100
women of different professions who can through their work and activities,
influence and advocate for human rights and elimination of gender
inequality. Women, through 5 group workshops in 5 places and a followup
big group meeting, would get to know each other, share experiences,
behold similarities through differences in religions, become empowered
through religious bases and gain knowledge about gender-based violence.
Their discussion sessions would foster the idea that no tradition supports
violence in family and community.
