ody is composed of 32-35 students aged 6-45. The main concentration
is among those born between 1975 and 1994 i.e. 26 youth 50 % of which
may be gradually trained to join non-sheltered outside market place. The
project is to enhance the determination of a group of 12-15 committed
mothers for self understanding, self esteem awareness, and assurance of
the ability to make a difference individually and as a group of parents and
families to improve their present and future conditions.
CARIBBEAN
1. Caribbean Link Ranger Gathering, Trinidad, West Indies, $5,000
The project aims to give girls and young women of the Caribbean Link of
Guiding an opportunity to meet and share experiences related to social
issues they care about and to help them create positive, practical responses
to deal with them. The Caribbean Link of Guiding is a sub-group of the
Western Hemisphere Region (WHR) and part of the World Association
of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). It comprises twenty Member
Organizations (MOs) of the Caribbean. The purpose of the Link is to foster
mutual cooperation and facilitate training as required for the growth and
development of its members.
PACIFIC
1. Fellowship of the Least Coin Workshop, Niue Island, $5,000
The project will bring together through two workshops Christian women
in Niue to build and renew links in prayer, which brings everyone together
in reconciliation, peace and justice. The workshop will cover issues that
will reflect on the lives of women of Niue, e.g. strengthening knowledge of
Christian ways, ways of maintaining healthy eating and healthy lifestyle
within the homes, promotion of income generation activities for women to
provide financially for home, community participation and involvement in
ministry work, etc.
2. Mitna Community Women/Girls Access to Education,
Papua New Guinea, $5,000
Mitna Community Women’s Group was formed in the 1990’s to address
the issues of women’s lack of access to education, business opportunities,
and development due to the strong tradition of male dominance resulting to
suppression and denial of women and girls’ rights. MCWG is focusing this
time on raising awareness of the importance of Access to Girls Education
to parents and issues relating to women rights, helping girls who dropped
out of the mainstream education with opportunity to continue their
