BIOGAS: LESS COST, MORE PROFIT<br />

Bidar: President, Zilla Panchayath, Mr. Kushal Patil Gadagi said that biogas is economical, eco<br />

friendly. He addressed the Gulbarga Biogas project local stakeholder meeting organized by SKG<br />

Sangha and Zilla Panchayath, Bidar. Earlier biogas usage is popular. He told that increasing cost<br />

and adverse impacts on climate forcing us to look at the biogas again.<br />

“Forest will be saved and dependence on fossil fuel will reduce by using biogas” he stated. Again he<br />

said that there will not be any smoke and also provide lighting. He assured all help for realizing this<br />

kind of eco friendly projects by Zilla Panchayath.<br />

Chief Executive officer, Zilla Panchayath told that biogas is very useful in all respects. There is a<br />

need to create awareness about the biogas in the Bidar District. Usage of biogas in other district is<br />

more popular. During the year 2008-09 the target for Bidar was 50. Only 4 units were installed.<br />

Out of Rs.3.85 lakh availability only Rs.28,000/- was spent. During 2009-10 the target was 50<br />

again and only 17 units were installed. Less achievement is there even in 2010-11. He told that<br />

biogas usage will save environment and more convenient for cooking. He also stated that as an<br />

alternative energy it reduces stress on electricity.<br />

Mrs. Neha Rao of Gold Standard foundation also addressed the meeting and told that the<br />

Foundation gives more thrust to the sustainable projects meant for rural development.<br />

The meeting organizer, Mr. D. Vidya Sagar, President, SKG Sangha has given more information<br />

about the usefulness of biogas. Food scarcity, fuel scarcity and global warming are become serious<br />

problems. There is a possibility of 7 degrees global temperature increase by 2050 and he worried<br />

that the life existence is in danger. It is not possible to stop the problems arising by the global<br />

warming, but we can work not to increase the global temperature. In this regard the biogas plays<br />

an important role. He also stated that they are implementing biogas projects in 13 districts and now<br />

combining Gulbarga, Bidar and Yadgir districts formulated “Gulbarga Biogas Project” in Karnataka.<br />

Mr. Prabhu Shetty Mengha, President, Standing Committee, Agriculture and Industry, Mr.<br />

Ganapathi Rathode, President, Taluk Panchayath, Bidar, Mr. Sriranga Parihara, President, Taluk<br />

Panchayath, Aurad and other dignitaries are on the dias. Mr. Rajendra Jonnakeri, Accounts Officer,<br />

Zilla Panchayath, Bidar acted as the event organizer. Mr. Umesha, Director, SKG Sangha welcome<br />

the gathering.<br />
