MCI 6173 SI Exhibit: Spiritual Visions: The Religious Images of Borikén,
Puerto Rico
MCI Staff: Jia-sun Tsang
The Smithsonian Latino Center’s (SLC) planned celebration of the 2008
Hispanic Heritage Month was initiated in September 2007 with an exhibition to
highlight the culture and accomplishments of Puerto Rico. The plan was to include
approximately 70 objects from the George Latimer Collection (acquired by NMNH in
1869) and Teodoro Vidal Collection (acquired by NMAH in 1997), to be displayed in
four 4' x 3' cases. A new proposal was written and successfully changed the theme to
highlight the posters from NMAH Archives Center. Because of the change, the current
exhibit has more objects and more space.
