Crown Rot, Fusarium pseudograminearum, Fusarium culmorum<br />

Severity <strong>Oat</strong>s are susceptible but tolerant so do not display any symptoms of this<br />

disease; however, they can result in a small carryover of inoculum.<br />

Source and spread Soil, stubble.<br />

Main hosts Wheat, barley, oats, triticale, barley grass, other grass weeds.<br />

Other comments Crown rot only needs to be considered in the terms of the whole rotation.<br />

Most commonly observed to cause severe damage following dry conditions<br />

in spring.<br />

Initial infection of plants is favoured by wet conditions, but the fungus<br />

grows rapidly when plants are moisture stressed.<br />

Damage may occur on all soil types, but is more severe on heavy soils.<br />
