LAW 6 – THE ASSISTANT REFEREES<br />
If a team that has <strong>com</strong>mitted four accumulated fouls <strong>com</strong>mits ano<strong>the</strong>r one<br />
and <strong>the</strong> referees decide to apply <strong>the</strong> advantage, <strong>the</strong> third referee places <strong>the</strong><br />
signal for <strong>the</strong> fi fth accumulated foul in <strong>the</strong> correct place on <strong>the</strong> timekeeper’s<br />
table. However, if that team <strong>com</strong>mits a new accumulated foul before <strong>the</strong> ball<br />
is out <strong>of</strong> play, <strong>the</strong> assistant referees must sound <strong>the</strong> acoustic signal, unless <strong>the</strong><br />
opposing team to <strong>the</strong> one that <strong>com</strong>mitted <strong>the</strong> foul has an obvious goalscoring<br />
opportunity.<br />
Chronometer<br />
If <strong>the</strong> chronometer does not work properly, <strong>the</strong> assistant referees inform <strong>the</strong><br />
referees <strong>of</strong> this fact. The timekeeper must continue timing <strong>the</strong> match using a<br />
manual chronometer. In such a situation, <strong>the</strong>y invite an <strong>of</strong>fi cial from each team<br />
in order to inform <strong>the</strong>m <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> real match time.<br />
If, after a stoppage in play, <strong>the</strong> timekeeper forgets to start <strong>the</strong> chronometer,<br />
<strong>the</strong> referees order <strong>the</strong> time that was not counted to be added on.<br />
117<br />
After restarts, <strong>the</strong> chronometer is started as follows:<br />
• kick-<strong>of</strong>f: after <strong>the</strong> ball is kicked towards <strong>the</strong> opponents’ half <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> pitch, in<br />
accordance with <strong>the</strong> procedure<br />
• goal clearance: after <strong>the</strong> goalkeeper releases <strong>the</strong> ball from his hands and<br />
<strong>the</strong> ball leaves <strong>the</strong> penalty area, in accordance with <strong>the</strong> procedure<br />
• corner kick: after <strong>the</strong> ball is kicked and moves, in accordance with <strong>the</strong><br />
procedure<br />
• kick-in: after <strong>the</strong> ball enters <strong>the</strong> pitch after being kicked, in accordance with<br />
<strong>the</strong> procedure<br />
• direct free kick outside <strong>the</strong> penalty areas: after <strong>the</strong> ball is kicked, in<br />
accordance with <strong>the</strong> procedure<br />
• indirect free kick outside <strong>the</strong> penalty areas to ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> teams or taken<br />

accordance with <strong>the</strong> procedure<br />
