Offence where an object is thrown<br />

LAW 12 – FOULS AND MISCONDUCT<br />

If, while <strong>the</strong> ball is in play, a player or substitute throws an object or a ball at<br />

an opponent or any o<strong>the</strong>r person in a reckless manner, <strong>the</strong> referees stop play if<br />

<strong>the</strong>y cannot apply <strong>the</strong> advantage and caution <strong>the</strong> player or substitute.<br />

If while <strong>the</strong> ball is in play, a player or substitute throws an object or a ball at<br />

an opponent or any o<strong>the</strong>r person with excessive force, <strong>the</strong> referees stop play if<br />

<strong>the</strong>y cannot apply <strong>the</strong> advantage to allow an obvious goalscoring opportunity<br />

to ensue and send <strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong> player or substitute for violent conduct.<br />

Restart <strong>of</strong> play<br />

• If a player standing inside his own penalty area throws an object or a ball<br />

at an opponent standing outside <strong>the</strong> penalty area, <strong>the</strong> referees restart play<br />

with a direct free kick to <strong>the</strong> opposing team taken from <strong>the</strong> position where<br />

<strong>the</strong> object struck or would have struck <strong>the</strong> opponent (see Law 13 – Position<br />

<strong>of</strong> free kick)<br />

• If a player standing outside his own penalty area throws an object or a ball<br />

at an opponent standing inside <strong>the</strong> penalty area, <strong>the</strong> referees restart play<br />

with a penalty kick to <strong>the</strong> opposing team<br />
