LAW 2 – THE BALL<br />

Additional balls<br />

Additional balls may be placed around <strong>the</strong> pitch for use during a match<br />

provided that <strong>the</strong>y meet <strong>the</strong> requirements <strong>of</strong> Law 2 and <strong>the</strong>ir use is under <strong>the</strong><br />

control <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> referees.<br />

Extra balls on <strong>the</strong> pitch<br />

If an extra ball enters <strong>the</strong> pitch while <strong>the</strong> ball is in play, <strong>the</strong> referees must stop<br />

<strong>the</strong> match only if <strong>the</strong> extra ball interferes with play. Play must be restarted with<br />

a dropped ball from <strong>the</strong> position <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ball when play was stopped, unless<br />

play was stopped inside <strong>the</strong> penalty area, in which case one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> referees<br />

drops <strong>the</strong> ball on <strong>the</strong> penalty area line at <strong>the</strong> point nearest to where <strong>the</strong> ball<br />

was located when play was stopped.<br />

If an extra ball enters <strong>the</strong> pitch while <strong>the</strong> ball is in play without interfering with<br />

play, <strong>the</strong> referees must have it removed at <strong>the</strong> earliest possible opportunity.<br />

Burst or defective ball<br />

If <strong>the</strong> ball bursts or be<strong>com</strong>es defective after striking one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> goalposts or <strong>the</strong><br />

crossbar and enters <strong>the</strong> goal, <strong>the</strong> referees award <strong>the</strong> goal.
