10 Johnston Gardens A park and gardens with streams, waterfalls, ponds, rockeries and a rustic bridge that helps to make this one of the most charming areas in the city. The garden is planted with rhododendrons, spring bulbs, heathers and alpines. The ponds are full of irises, aylesbury, mallard and muscovy ducks. There is also a children’s play area. Go there in the spring to see the spectacular banks of daffodils. Paths alongside the River Don to Cottown of Balgownie and Donmouth. Victoria Park This is Aberdeen’s oldest park. Full of flowers, shrubs and trees, there are plenty of seats to take in the scenery and it is ideal for picnics. There is a conservatory used as a seating area for inclement weather and a small glasshouse feature with alpine plants during the summer months. The central feature of the park is a fountain, particularly unique, as it is made from fourteen types of granite. The park has a children’s cycle track and a play area. The relaxing Gilcomston Burn runs through the park, and modelled water features have been added to it.
