"Gents: Read your advertisement, and am sending for the book<br />
which you say is distributed gratis. What I want is a treatment to<br />
straighten crossed eyes, or a cure for strabismus. Please advise.<br />
Yours,<br />
CAROLINE ARNOLD."<br />
Reply, dated August 30, 1929, reads as follows :<br />
"Our booklet 'Herb Lore' is distributed gratis, but we ask that those<br />
wishing their booklet mailed to them, furnish us with the postage. If<br />
you will send us 13c in postage, we shall be glad to mail you a copy.<br />
Our herba are compounded to meet individual needs and the price<br />
is ten dollars per week in advance. One package is to be cooked daily<br />
according to directions, and the tea drunk each day. All packages are<br />
mailed postpaid and insured. Should you desire that our herbalist<br />
compound herbs for you, you should write in detail the facts of your<br />
ailment, how long you have been afflicted, etc.<br />

"Yours of Aug. 30th received and inclosed find 13c for 'Herb Lore/ I<br />
do not have any facts to give regarding the trouble strabismus except<br />
that I have had it practically since a child. Please let me know if you<br />
can cure the trouble ? Yours,<br />
CAROLINE ARNOLD."<br />
