3 The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him
whom my soul loveth?
3:1 saw ye him. To the watchman the question might have appeared incoherent. To the Shulamite
woman there was only one person whom who heart was fixed on. The Christian must have but
One person and one passion. Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his
righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
4 It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul
loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my
mother's house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.
3:4 I found him. As the Shulamite maiden found her beloved so the heart that seeks after the
Lord shall find Him. Jeremiah 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for
me with all your heart.
