5 Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness [desert], leaning upon her
beloved?
Solomon Speaks
I raised [awakened] thee up under the apple tree: [and as they drew near the home
of the Shulamite maiden Solomon pointed and said] there thy mother brought thee
forth [conceived thee]: there she brought thee forth [was in labor] that bare thee.
8:2 apple tree (tappuwach [tap-poo'-akh]). The reference may indicate the apricot, a native of
China that was introduced into Mesopotamia and Palestine prior to the days of Abraham. The
favorable climate can cause this tree with spreading branches to grow to 30ft.in height. It may be
that the apricot was the "forbidden fruit" of the Garden of Eden.

6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as
death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath
a most vehement flame.
8:6 as a seal. The seal speaks of something confirmed and settled. When a legal document is
drawn up, the contents are sealed and settled. Spiritually, every believer is sealed with the Holy
Spirit of promise (Eph. 1:13).
