are located between them. In 1973, traces of
a late seventeenth century or early
eighteenth century garden bed, with a
radiocarbon date of 1720 +-100 (N-1722), were
found at the Gyftakis site adjacent to the
Tionontate village site.[33]
While some of the fields are located on
what modern maps show as swamps, the relative
positioning, if not the site of these
features is probably accurate, and is
supported by independent accounts and other
maps. It is also significant that there is
no mention of a French fort in these accounts
or included on the map. There are two
