The Cadillac map which was prepared at the
same time as this relation has not survived.
However, there is an anonymous map in the
Ayer Collection of the Newberry Library in
Chicago (Figure 2) that is believed to date
from 1717 or nearly the same time as the
earliest surviving longhand copy of the
Cadillac memoir. This map shows a fort and
small village on the south side of the
Straits, as well as a larger settlement on
the north side of the Strait in East Moran
