2009 Show Special - British Driving Society

We had a great entry for our show on 31st May
and a lovely sunny day. I would like to thank our
judge Joy Claxton and Mark Fuller who was our
probationary judge and also Juli Southby the ring
steward for doing such a marvellous job. Results

Tabe Annema. Pleasure driving with a dalmatian.

The Lincolnshire Area of the British Driving
Society was invited by the organisers of
the Brocklesby Country Fair to give a
demonstration in the main ring during their
2009 event. Area Commissioner David
Faulkner agreed and we were duly press ganged
into service although we all volunteered.
After a long drive we arrived at Brocklesby
near Immingham north Lincolnshire only to
be confused by the signage but after a short
detour we were able to follow the Pony Club
signs and arrived on time. The only changes
from the Burghley display team was that
Carole Davenport stepped in to cover for Joss
Smith whose pony was unable to compete. Joss
back stepped for Helen
Faulkner and Cathy Towle
drove a two wheel Millers
Norfolk cart, complete
with scales and weights
to demonstrate a trade
turnout.
The BDS set up ‘camp’ in
one corner and there was
soon a key group settled
in for the day. David’s camper was the main
collection point where we all gathered for tea
and coffee. We were to display at 11.30 so we
went early and marked the arena for the cones
and decided how we were going to start etc.

Thank you first of all to Colin and Rhonda
for putting on a lovely spread and making us
very welcome at the Social evening we had at
his house last month. A good opportunity to
swap horsey stories and news. Thank you also
to Peter for spending a lot of time and effort
in organising a BDS drive around Beacon
fell, which was sadly called off due to lack
of interest! Will members please come along
to the events they are requesting- it is very
disheartening for the organisers when this
happens.
Thank you also to Dave and Steph for putting
on a tasty Hog roasts and practice evenings-

didn’t get all the way around as they had to
return for their daughter’s wedding, but will
continue their travels in autumn. Their boat is
waiting in Trinidad. This is an opportunity to

Nearer the time we made our
way to our collection point and
our steward Ruth collected us
and led us into the collection
area where we waited for the
Police Dog handlers to finish.
Our only other experience
was in a ring 50mtr x 50mtr
with perhaps a hundred people
watching. This ring was
almost 100 x 60mtrs. There was not a single
viewing space around the main ring, we were
later told that 17,000 people had attended.
Thankfully the ponies had already been past
the airgun range, through crowds of people
